We bought the Dax pack today and I picked up SOCOM to go with it. I was curious how the UBI shooters turned out. At $40 a pop I was not looking to just hope for the best.

Both were half-assed versions of console games based on all the reviews I read. If you want a shooter on the PSP, find ones that were developed natively for it. Medal of Honor: Heroes is good as is Syphon Filter Dark Mirror. And you've already got Socom. Try and stay away from the shooter ports for the PSP because they are just last ditch attempts by those developers to make a bit more cash.

Killzone: Liberation is supposed to be a good game. I'm really tempted to get one of these new PSPs but I'll probably wait until the black model is out.

I just got the Dax model today too. I looked up the highest ranked shooters and ended up with Syphon Filter and Metal Gear: Portable Ops. Haven't played them yet but they were 2 of the highest ranked. And plus they were both $19 or less at BB :)

Yes, MGS:PO should be at the top of that list as well. Fantastic game, though less of a traditional "shooter." Definitely a stealth game.

What are the good quality games on the PSP? Is the PSP worth the money just for gaming?

Same here. Amazon listed the date for the black model as Sept 10, but they recently changed it to Sep 24. :( I applied for the Sony credit card and am waiting for it to be available there to buy the PSP and other games to total $300 and then get $100 back. But patience is not one of my strengths. I hope I can hold out, because I really want the black, as video looks better surrounded by a black bezel, and it matches the PS3.

You ought not post the same question in multiple threads, especially when its not on topic (in the other threads, in this one its close enough).
I haven't bought one yet, but I think its worth it. I've researched what games I want:
LocoRoco
WipEout Pure (Pulse is coming)
Sid Meier's Pirates
Lumines II (I'd prefer the original, but its $40-$50 because it contains an exploit to enable downgrading firmware to install homebrew)
Siphon Filter
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Star Wars Battlefront
Coming games:
Patapon
echochrome

I admit that I use my PSP for gaming only 50% of the time, since I use it mostly when I travel. That said, I have been very happy with it as a gaming machine. I haven't tried SoCom (because I've never liked it), but I just couldn't get into the Shooters. The lack of a second analog stick made the controls too hard to learn for as infrequent as I game with the PSP. Driving and flying games are a lot of fun. I've really enjoyed Outrun and Ace Combat. For silly fun, Daxter is a great platform game with wonderful graphics and good controls.

metal gear portable ops is really fun! I was never much of a fan of the series, but they really made a nice psp game. call of duty is also good, as is the socom series.
