I am looking for a upcoversion dvd player for around $100 at amazon.com or at Best Buy. They are the Pioneer DV-400V, Panasonic DVD-S53 and the Sony DVP-NS77h. Which dvd player do you recommend and why? This new dvd player will be connected to a 37" Sharp Aquos 768p LCD screen.

Based on the research I've done here on this forum & elsewhere online I would knock the Panasonic off your short list mainly because of inferior build quality plus somwhat lower image quality as well.

Otherwise I'm in the exact same boat & deciding between the Sony & the slightly more expensive Pioneer... btw both are on sale @ bb this week with the Sony at an especially attractive price.

I picked up the Sony DVP-NS77H...I was happy for about a week and now it's skipping and freezing with a brand new DVD...I think I'm going back to BB to pickup the Pioneer DV-400V-K...

If you do some more research on this forum, you will find the general consensus is Sony, right behind Oppo. I have both the 75h and 77h. Love them. For a deal, go to Sonystyle.com, outlet store...refurbs for cheap. Both of mine came from there. Also, if you would want to use fiber optic out for audio, the Pio does not have one.

I have both the 75h and 77h. Love them.

I have both of those Sony upscaling dvd players as well. The 75h is hooked up to a Panasonic lx70 and the 77h is hooked up to the Sony 40W3000. Picture quality is awesome. :)

i opted for the pioneer because i have the option of outputting any resolution i want, interlaced or not. that way i can let the TV do the scaling/deinterlacing if it provides better PQ.
