Hey guys, looking for some help. I bought the Pioneer DV-400V to connect to an older Sammy HLM507W DLP. The TV has a HDCP-DVI port and have never had a problem with it before. Anyway, my problem is that the dvd player works great in 480P over a hdmi-to-dvi cable, but if I cange the resolution to 720P (native resolution), the screen goes dark. It doesn't go black, it looks like it's recieving a black screen from the dvd player. Also, if I choose a different color mode for the HDMI output (one of the options on the dvd player) the dark screen changes. Select RGB and the screen is more dark brown, select composite color and the screen is a bright purple. The dvd player is still working since the audio can still be heard. I'm stumped. I have nicer cables from Monoprice and some generic cables that I've tried, but no love. Again, 480P works great.
Any ideas??

"RGB" and "Full Range RGB" are considered as enhanced HDMI color modes. By switching from "component colors" to "RGB" and/or "Full Range RGB" player increasing black level / contrast and colors tone. So that is why your picture looks "darker" (not sure about "dark brown" it could be your DLP, my plasma TV shows more blackish picture). I keep mine in "component" colors mode and I do not see "bright purple" tone. I guess it could be something related to your DLP settings / colors calibration, or colors interpretation from HDMI or wrong colors mapping as a result of HDMI-to-DVI conversion. Not sure ..

Sounds like a player problem or setup/config issue. Regardless of the color format used you should still see something that looks like a video image.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm completely stumped. The color mode doesn't really cause the problem I'm having, increasing the resoultion output on the dvd player does. Like I said before, if I'm outputing 480p, everything works as it should. If I change the up-convert rez to my TV's native rez (720p), the screen goes black. The dvd is still running, but not outputing a signal that my tv understands. I'm not certain that it's even the TV since I don't have a second tv to test it on.
The color-mode seems to be a side effect of what ever the problem is. @ 480p and the color mode set to full-hdmi, the color and picture looks normal. At 480p and RGB the colors look washed out, but relatively correct. @ 480p and composite, everything turn to a purple tint. @ 720p and higher, I get nothing, black screen, unless I preselected Composite color, then I get a purple screen...no still no picture.
Could cable (hdmi cable) bandwidth have any affect? I bought my cable a while ago and I'm sure they're not HDMI 1.2+ certified.
