Anyone who thinks Disney supported Blu-Ray because of 50GB discs is kidding themselves. Studio relationship chicanery and personalities had far more influence than comparing specs.

Because there are so many Disney movies out on Blu-Ray. Yeah.

That said, MEC2 is spot-on. "Capacity" is a talking point, that's about it. Copy protection promises and back-scratching are the reason Disney is Blu-Ray exclusive.

I'd like to know the native language of the OP.
That's the best question of the thread. I'm thinking about sigging that OP.

A ok, disculpame entonces!!!!, tengo entendido que una de las razones que tiene Disney es la capacidad de almacenamiento de los HD DVD ya que los BR tienen mayor capacidad.
Ahora con las tres capas podria disney cambiar su mentalidad?

translation for the rest of the forum

It is my understanding that one of the reasons Disney chose BR over HD is that BR has more storage capacity. Now with the advent of the Triple Layer HDDVD, would this change their minds?

answer: no. Here in the U.S and thier parent companies in Japan are not driven by technology, they are driven by money. There are other intrests involved in this format war, that none of the companies is willing to explain or divuldge, but none of those intrest in both formats is techology. Both are intrested in money, unfortunatly.

As much as I'd love to see it happen, I don't think it's going to happen for awhile.. it appears they are going through with their promotional "blu" tour as already spotted in California Malls with home theater chairs setup to watch Pirates on 5 Plasma tv's. I think if any blu-ray studios go neutral, it will be Lionsgate or Fox before Disney caves.. however, who knows.. no one expected the Paramount/Dreamworks deal.

Yeah, 50GB Blu-ray discs was just a convenient excuse for Disney. Next they'll be claiming that Blu-ray's bandwidth is the reason they're sticking with Blu-ray only.

Anyone (both camps) that thinks that these companies sides with one side or the other on "technology" is dillusional.

In the end there has to be GOOD incentives for companies to be on one side or the other or BOTH (WB making a nice profit on HD/BR sells). And to make it perfectly clear, incentives means financial by either subsidizing, support cost, basically anythnig that effects their bottom line on the books.

With superior storage space and web interactivity on HD DVD this may well be reason enough for Disney to consider HD DVD support.

No different for paramount saying about "price" even though they sold more movies on bluray. Lets face it, its all propaganda for lemmings.

Amir is very specific in saying Disney does NOT want region coding! They are apparently on the AACS board and it's apparently clear they aren't interested in that. He also says they were previously offered the higher capacity disc, and that didn't seem to be working either. I get the impression he knows exactly what's going on with Disney, but isn't telling.
