Whats the dillio? PQ/AQ? new extras? non-combo HD ?
p.
Rusty James 09-10-07, 11:19 AM I believe most (if not all) of those will be non-combos.
protovision 09-10-07, 11:30 AM ah, thought so.
I guess Warner is waking up and not needlessly gouging people for an extra $5-10 for a combo they don't want.

no, they are no long "new" titles. All new titles are combos to clean out your wallet just a little more.
I'm thinking they had more issues with the combos then they want to say. Thus the non-combos.
I may buy a few I don't own if their cheeper..
agentalbert 09-10-07, 05:15 PM This is great news. I hate the combos. Won't buy them. I'll be getting some titles I skipped first time round, and getting them cheaper. Wish they'd drop the stupid combo thing altogether. But now that we know that combo titles will later be re-leases as non-combos, its even easier to wait on titles I want.

While I commend you for not seeing this as the end of combos but a separation of the movie no longer being new and therefore no need for a costly release. But current pricing structure of "new" releases from almost all of the companies pretty much proves that $39.99 MSRP is the norm not the exception and the only two things that sends this wrong symbol of bloated pricing for combos is Warner releasing New BD's at a lower price and Best Buy selling combo's at near MSRP while selling almost everything else $10 less then MSRP. Warner prices the BD's at less then the HD-DVD's not because the combos are more costly to produce (not saying they aren't but $1 extra in production on something almost pure margin isn't going to affect price if they don't want it to) but because the BD's are incapable of being backwards compatible and therefore a lesser release, why would someone pay the same price for something less capable.
stumlad 09-11-07, 01:30 AM 34.99 is the price of new non combos. 28.99 is the catalog price. These are still being considered new. Blood Diamond is the exception. Released as a non-combo with 28.99 MSRP. Still haven't figured out why
I'm curious to see if the pull and stop releasing the older combo versions of if both will exists. I'm not counting these as additional title releases if the one is replacing the other (at leasts thats how I'm tallying)

BD came out well over two months after it hit DVD. They did the same thing with V for Vendetta and Posieden.

* Superman Returns (Re-Issue) (Warner)
I'll take these. And maybe with the money I say I'll pick up TAB if I feel so inclined.
lgans316 09-11-07, 09:39 PM Besides making it non-combo I hope that they don't do a new AV encode forcing existing owners to double dip.
These companys need to understand the new ways to cost reduce.
It used to be
Relase to dvd
Release special edition dvd
Release special directors cut unrated ultra mega zoid edition dvd
now though they can simply
Combo hd dvd $27
Non combo 6-8 months later $20
hit 2 price points with one transfer . I know people who will buy at certian price points for certian features and even for me i'd buy say the new batman on combo but the new rush hour on just hd dvd.
The Doctor 09-11-07, 09:55 PM I've been wondering about these reissues, I thought possibly they could be part of a holiday sales push.
Rachael Bellomy 09-11-07, 10:31 PM I wonder if they'll leave the Combo versions in circulation to guage intrest????
R Miyashiro 09-12-07, 07:49 AM Too bad I bought the titles I wanted on here on Blu-ray already since I hate combos. I still don't own Superman, so probably buy the non-combo HD-DVD to show my support for these reissues.
MichaelHDDVD 09-12-07, 07:52 AM It'll be interesting to see how well the re-issues sell, especially since some of these like The Departed and Superman Returns already have pretty good penetration into the HD DVD user base. This is probably a test by Warner Bros to see how well non-combo releases would do. Because if these sell decently then Warner would know people are holding back on HD DVD combo releases (because of the price of because of the dual sided disc)
Besides making it non-combo I hope that they don't do a new AV encode forcing existing owners to double dip.
That's an evil thing to say. Why hope others don't get superior encodes?
I'd gladly DD for a better encode.
hidefpaul 10-11-07, 04:56 PM Does anyone know if the Warner's re-issue of "Superman Returns" (NON COMBO obviously) is correctly showing on Amazon .com. I did a search, found the combo version for the usual price, but the other disk for $23.95 says "Superman Returns" HDVD - Marlon Brando .....
Is this just a mistake by amazon on the description, or is it in fact the Warner Re-issue?
Thanks
Paul
Marlon Brando is in Superman Returns.
ilovenola2 10-11-07, 10:25 PM Marlon Brando is in Superman Returns.
And since he is in the hearafter (instead of truly in the Ruins of Krypton), and cannot collect any more money, he is hereby rollllllling in his grave!!
Traelin 10-12-07, 06:51 AM One thing I'd personally like to know is if/when Uni plans on reissuing their combos. I still haven't bought Breach or Knocked Up and I really want these movies. But they will continue to be "wants" and not actual purchases until Uni wakes the eff up and scraps combos.
