View Full Version : Blu Ray's Dirty Little Secret FremontRich 09-10-07, 12:01 PM A bomb just exploded in the Blu Ray camp: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=905704 JaylisJayP 09-10-07, 12:23 PM is this just an article about people realizing that you can get blu-ray exclusive titles as HD DVD imports? Isn't that really, really old news...or am I missing something? FremontRich 09-10-07, 12:26 PM is this just an article about people realizing that you can get blu-ray exclusive titles as HD DVD imports? Isn't that really, really old news...or am I missing something? It's substantially more than that.... the cost of producing Blu Ray discs is much higher than HD DVD. Didn't you read the entire article? spectator 09-10-07, 12:27 PM It's substantially more than that.... the cost of producing Blu Ray discs is much higher than HD DVD. Wow! So, it's not just one piece of ancient news, but TWO?! mark197 09-10-07, 12:29 PM Imports have been available all along. How is that a secret? Emotep 09-10-07, 12:31 PM Also works vice versa. You can get HD-DVD exclusives as Blu-Ray imports, although the selection is much more limited because HD-DVD doesn't have very many exclusives to start with. wormraper 09-10-07, 12:33 PM Also works vice versa. You can get HD-DVD exclusives as Blu-Ray imports, although the selection is much more limited because HD-DVD doesn't have very many exclusives to start with. LOL, really ???? then Xploitedcinema is lying to us with all those wonderful BD exclusive titles they have???? and stop with the lying about exclusive studios. Let me count, Weinstein, Uni, Dreamworks, Paramount. Let me count on Blu Ray, Sony/columbia/tri-star, Fox, Disney, Lionsgate. hmmmmmm Goatse 09-10-07, 12:40 PM Paying 50bux for imports isn't really not a smart way of buying movies. OggideM 09-10-07, 12:44 PM Paying 50bux for imports isn't really not a smart way of buying movies. baldbull 09-10-07, 12:45 PM If it's for Equilibrium in HD, it is! rboster 09-10-07, 12:45 PM Wow! So, it's not just one piece of ancient news, but TWO?! well said. Nothing about the article is new. Maybe new to the OP, but not to those that have been following the game from the first quarter. BTW: someone should tell the author that buying titles abroad that aren't available in the US has been going on for a long time too. We can watch Mr. Bean's Holiday or Sunshine at home instead of the theater. This article reminds me of the times my 9 yo discovers something for the first time...hey Dad, did you know they made 3 Star Wars movies a long time ago...before Ep. 1. For someone writing for a Tech/HT publication, one would HOPE this is old news and not something he JUST discovered. Goatse 09-10-07, 12:45 PM think about it, you can own a bluray player and buy the same movies for 50% or less. Emotep 09-10-07, 12:45 PM LOL, really ???? then Xploitedcinema is lying to us with all those wonderful BD exclusive titles they have???? and stop with the lying about exclusive studios. Let me count, Weinstein, Uni, Dreamworks, Paramount. Let me count on Blu Ray, Sony/columbia/tri-star, Fox, Disney, Lionsgate. hmmmmmm Dreamworks and Paramount are the same company. You also forgot on the Blu-ray side... Pixar, Square-Pictures, MGM, gluvhand 09-10-07, 12:48 PM Paying 50bux for imports isn't really not a smart way of buying movies. Sure it is. A movie I want is only available on HD as an import, I have the money to pay for it, I see the movie. It's a no brainer. It may also delay my having to buy a piece of relatively expensive equipment that I don't really want. wormraper 09-10-07, 12:48 PM Dreamworks and Paramount are the same company. You also forgot on the Blu-ray side... Pixar, Square-Pictures, MGM, Pixar is part of Disney, MGM is controlled by Fox, same deal. and Square, no offense but you mean the 1/2 dozen films they put out are gonna make a big deal????. So, with your definition of "the same company it goes back to.... BD: Sony, Fox, Disney, Lionsgate HD: Paramount, Universal, Weinstein. Real lopsided there I see, sparse pickings for either side  Emotep 09-10-07, 12:52 PM Pixar is part of Disney, MGM is controlled by Fox, same deal. and Square, no offense but you mean the 1/2 dozen films they put out are gonna make a big deal????. Disney and Pixar broke up... in 2004. :D http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1625251 Sporadic 09-10-07, 12:54 PM Sure it is. It may also delay my having to buy a piece of relatively expensive equipment that I don't really want. Come on, why pay 10-20 extra a disc when you can spend 500 on a Blu-Ray player! :p Johnsteph10 09-10-07, 12:54 PM Also works vice versa. You can get HD-DVD exclusives as Blu-Ray imports, although the selection is much more limited because HD-DVD doesn't have very many exclusives to start with. 100% wrong. You mean that HD DVD currently has MORE exclusives than BD. Johnsteph10 09-10-07, 12:55 PM Err... Disney and Pixar broke up... in 2004. :D http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1625251 Wrong. They don't own them anymore but they release them -- they still have a very very close relationship. Disney is still releasing Pixar movies -- or do you not notice the Disney logo plastered all over Pixar releases? Cars, for example. Mike C 09-10-07, 12:59 PM dup topic |
