View Full Version : Unofficial "NO I DO NOT have Sound Lag with THE MATRIX" thread
Matt_Stevens 09-10-07, 02:40 PM A kind mod suggested a new thread, far more specific. So I am starting TWO new threads.
One for people who DO have a sound problem and one for people who do NOT.
This thread is ONLY for people who have NOT experienced the sound lag problem on THE MATRIX HD-DVD
If you have not experienced the problem, then please post in the other thread. Any and all flame baiters or thread crappers will be reported.
In order to solve this problem and to appease those of you will not believe that their could be a mastering problem, I am asking that you post the following information...
HD-DVD player, model and firmware
Audio equipment, make and model
How your equipment is connected
What soundtrack you have listened to
Remember, this thread is ONLY for those of you have not experienced any problems with THE MATRIX. If you have experienced a problem, please go to the other thread and report it.

No probms with the Matrix set but then I store all my HD DVD ripped from the 360 addons to HDDs. Never really played many HD DVD directly thru the X360 with addon. I use to have probms even with upscaling DVD players with SD DVDs with lip sync issues (many upscaling DVD players bought and demo'd  along with a few AVR's with lip sync compensation ). But never had lip sycn issues with a HTPC as the engine. Audio outs are digital optical, digital coax and anolog from various HTPCs.
I don't own a standalone HD player as such.

I'd test again, but I'm pretty sure I lent this to my bro in law, so I may have to wait and try again, but I went entirely through the first 2 movies and never noticed any audio sync issues. 3rd I went partly through, same result, no sync issues.

Alpha Emeritus 09-10-07, 04:10 PM Absolutely no problems here, watched the trilogy several times on hd dvd. i think the problems that the OP was ranting about earlier this morning are isolated to the equipment and how its connected (in the cases of those reporting problems) because it would be more widespread if it was a problem with the discs.

I had a sync problem and had to use an audio delay box to fix it. But then one of the firmware upgrades (maybe 2.1) fixed it permanently.
This might be a dumb thought but I wonder if the firmware actually fixed a bug or it looks for the serial nbr or whatever nbr it is called for the Matrix disc and adds its own general audio delay. That could be why some discs don't have a problem while, because of HT set-ups, there are some that have a tiny bit of lag. Just a thought.

Ettepet 09-10-07, 10:26 PM Puting my XE-1 (=XA-2) on 1080i in stead of 1080p output caused enough video lag to solve most (if not all) of my audio lag problem. I wonder if this is exactly what we see happening in these threads: people using different video output settings influencing their experience.
Favelle 09-10-07, 10:49 PM Is the lag for all three? I have only the 3rd one (Revolutions) and there is NO lag with the 360 add-on connected to my HTPC........

Ettepet 09-11-07, 06:16 AM Puting my XE-1 (=XA-2) on 1080i in stead of 1080p output caused enough video lag to solve most (if not all) of my audio lag problem. I wonder if this is exactly what we see happening in these threads: people using different video output settings influencing their experience.
I feel we are missing something in this topic. The Matrix discs were obviously mastered wrong, a problem that possibly has been corrected (or introduced) in later batches. With 1080p I have problems with all 3 (pre-ordered) movies. B.t.w., by pre-ordering it doesn't mean my discs are all from the earliest batch.
If we fail to count in video-delay (in both player and tv/pj) I think we will end up with a lot of useless data.

No issues for me:
XA2 fw2.2 (I believe it was 1.6 when these came out in May)
Optical connection set to bitstream, connected to old as the hill Technics decoder connected to even older onkyo sx-828
Can't recall which audio track I watched, I may have left it at default
I watched all three in a row.
wnorris 09-11-07, 10:05 AM Big waste of time without also knowing the video source (which could be adding its own delays to compensate). We also need to know if your receiver/TV's allow you to add audio delay (or if you've added a delay block), and if so, what is it set at.
A very unscientific polling for a science forum.
Any way. I preordered the titles and had them the Friday before the official release date. No lag on any of the three movies using the THD soundtrack or DD+, as I checked both because of the reported problem.
XA2 (no idea what firmware I was running in May when I watched them, probably 1.6)
