I love the fact that so many import HD DVDs have DTS HD MA tracks on them. Ok, so we can't hear the master track yet, but we still get 1.5mbps core track and the disc still contains a lossless track. So why are studios using DD+ anyway?

Because DD+ decoding is mandatory and DTS HD: MA is not. Why waste space with DTS HD: MA when no players can decode it?

Do you ever go back and watch older DVD? How is it a waste of space? Most of us by next year will probably own a player that will decode MA or bitstream it.

Sometimes, and DD+ 1.5 mbps sounds better than my standard DVDs

It's a waste of space because no players support it. TrueHD probably uses roughly the same amount space as DTS HD: MA but it is usable.

That is like saying your Ford Pinto is better than a paddle bike :D

DD+ at 1.5 mb/s is considered by many in film sound production to be virtually transparent to the uncompressed source. DTS at 1.5 mb/s is not.

At equal resolution, TrueHD is more efficient (read; lower bit rate, smaller file size) than DTS-HD MA. So, not only is TrueHD a hi-res audio format we can actually USE, it takes up less space.

Hrm. It is similar to MP3 (DTS 1.5) vs. OGG (DD+ 1.5)?

Because the 1.5 DD+ lossy track won't sound any worse than they MA track.

I hate having a fature I can't use. I guess we will be hearing a lot of that from the BR side next year won't we!
