In this topic, we'll rate each other when we make an unplanned HD DVD purchase.

For example, today I bought the Hulk. I was holding off on it but I said what the hell and bought it.

Have fun with this.

I don't have the same hate everyone else seems to have for the movie. I think Ang lee went and made a movie that really just doesn't conform to the standard movie format and tried to go as comic book as he could with it. I actually kind of enjoyed it, too bad they butchered the hulk story overall to do it, but hey, again that's hollywood for ya.

The PQ though is amazing on that release.

I bought the HD-Dvd add on for my new xbox and picked up 300. I also got in the mail today a copy of Superman Returns on HD-DVD. I also got my shipment from Monoprice of all new hdmi cables and a switcher so I have now rewired my dvd player, cable box and xbox 360 for hdmi. Works great by the way I can finally watch hd broadcast tv without the studdering picture. Oh and I bought the Serenity special edition.
cheers

I've always really liked Hulk. Give it a shot before you listen to the naysayers.

I thought the movie wasnt nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be and it looked great on DVD I could only imagine how it lookes on HD DVD.

So, is it that people have already seen all the good movies, and the only blind buys left are crap, or are people just really really bad at buying blindly? :) There are some decent movies listed in this thread, but Digitalfilth is the only one that I'd say has made a good purchase, with SUPERMAN RETURNS and SERENITY.

Well, I haven't done it yet, but I intend to blindly buy Training Day and Midnight Run. Haven't seen either.

I just blind bought Hot Fuzz based on the good buzz it's getting here. I haven't seen Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead.

Flat out amazing. It is one of the best looking HD DVDs.

I thought Hulk had a couple of major, fatal flaws, but also did some very nice things that made it more interesting, at times, than your average summer tentpole. I don't think it's a great movie, but I definitely think it's worth a look (especially when that look is as pretty as the HD DVD transfer).

Hot Fuzz is incredible. The movie, above all else, is fantastic, but it also happens to have amazing PQ and AQ.

I keep debating picking up The Thing, which would be a blind buy for me. I know this is considered a great movie, but I generally don't like gore, etc.

My last two blind buys were successful - Hot Fuzz and Shaun.

Dennis, it's not super gory, but The Thing is a masterpiece in suspense. The dread it fills you with is ridiculous.

Blind bought The Elephant Man from Xploited Cinema.

It's been on my to-buy list for awhile now and I figure David Lynch/Anthony Hopkins....how can I go wrong?

Dennis Heller I wish I was you and could see The Thing again for the first time :)

Yeah, I don't get why people trash Hulk.
One of the better DC adaptations and a solid cast to say the least.
PQ & AQ are excellent.

Das Thing.
Man, I remember watching that for the first time, talk about squirm in your seat. Turned me into a Kurt Russell fan.
If you're a fan of this movie, you gotta get it or you're not really a fan now are you.

Oh and I blind bought The Warriors. It probably doesn't hold up that well 20+ years later but it was still a fun movie so I figured WTH.

I just blind-bought "District B13" from Amazon and will watch it this weekend.
My last blind buy was Heroes and I just finished watching it. Loved the series but wow did the finale stink. If the climatic battle could have been more lame, I can't imagine how. I just hope it wasn't the proverbial shark-jump and am looking forward to the new season.

I, on the other hand have stopped with Blind Buys since its so much easier and more economical to try out movies through Netflix first. Luckily I never had too many stinkers but there are a LOT of movies that just dont warrant a re-watch and most movies fall into this category, IMO.

So... unless you have cash to burn, I say pretty much always rent or try before you buy!
