All

I have a DirecTV Plus HD DVR and a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 TV. The TV has HDMI inputs (2) and and iptical audio out (PCM/Dolby Digital). Due to expanding my home theater I have run out of HDMI ports and therefore purchased an HDMI switcher. This switcher does not include Toslink, just HDMI.

So tonight I decided to look at my setup to see if I could push audio down the HDMI to my receiver. My setup was originally with the optical coming out of the DTV box into my receiver which is working fine. However when I disconnected that setup and just had the HDMI from the DTV going into the TV then the optical out on that to the receiver I had no audio at all.

Any help with this ? The Sony manual states real simple instructions whereby you literally turn the in built speaker off and it sends the audio to the receiver. The DTV menus are also simple, no options rather than choosing yes or no to Dolby Digital output.

Need thoughts, comments etc to help

Thanks

WC

I forgot to add that the audio through the TV speakers (when built in speakers are set to on) works fine

Hook the optical out from the HD-DVR directly to the receiver. The optical output on the TV is most likely only used for the internal ATSC tuner. It probably won't pass audio from other inputs or will only pass stereo.
