I have a Samsung HLR-6167W, when they first came out. I have not done anything to it as far as upgrades. A friend mentioned I need to get the firmware upgraded for it. I dont really have too many problems with the TV, the TV Guide data sometimes gets a little hosed but usually fixes itself in a day (always thought that was a TV Guide problem). Also every once a great while, maybe 2-3 times total, turn it on, i hear the fan and tv start up but no picture. I turn it off and back on and its fixed.

I am looking into a HTPC though in the coming months.

So questions :)
1. How do u know if there is a new firmware for your TV?
2. Is this something an inexperienced home user does or do you hire someone?
3. Is this a necessary thing?
