if i buy a used 8300HD dvr and want to use it for my TW cable, will it work and if not what will i need to do?

if not, i was planning on buying a LST-3510A HD tuner/dvd combo and using it on a Dell 24" lcd via the pc connector interface.
what would be better?

Scientific Atlanta DVRs sold on ebay are almost always stolen. Cable companies do not activate stolen DVRs.
