I know it's getting god awful reviews but it still looks really cool and even with the framerate issues and difficult motion control I just find it hard to believe it's that terrible. Is there anything to redeem it? Is it really and truly that awful? I'd give it a rent but I don't have a PS3 yet :p.

Did you try doing a search? Did you try doing a search at all?

nope the reviews are pretty accurate for this title, a bit harsh but none the less accurate. Shame to, this game had a lot of potential...went straight into my rental category after playing it at my local GS.

I hated it at first... but by the end of the game I really liked it. I even went back and played the levels I originally hated and enjoyed them the 2nd time around. It takes a few hours to really get a handle on the controls. If you don't have the patience to get past the learning curve you're not going to enjoy Lair.

If you had done a search you would have found that a lot of people are having fun with it.

Played it on a friends machine for an hour or so. This game was a disaster. Good thing he rented it.

It takes an hour or so just to learn the controls. How could you have played the game?

From what I read in this and other forums there are more people than actually played it who did like it than than didn't.

Yea, really ... this forum needs a nice little cleanup for all the duplicate threads.

My question is different enough from the other 2 freakin Lair threads to warrant a new thread and I didn't feel like wading through a million other posts to see how many people liked or disliked the damn game. If you have no interest in contributing to the conversation then just ignore the thread and/or get a life.

I rented it and have been playing it for the past 5 days... I would give it a 7.8 out of 10. The controls do take some getting used to, but once you do they feel quite natural.

Similar to how riding a horse controls different than driving a car, riding a dragon feels different than flying a warhawk. I think they hit the nail on the head with the controls.

I don't especially like the way the game is laid out, and while it is graphically impressive at 1080p, the framerate does take a hit at times. I have also noticed tearing for a split second 2 different times. That really isn't much considering I played or watched the game being played for ~10 hours.

I liked it... but it was ultimately forgettable for me. I'm halfway through it with no real desire to finish it. The control honestly doesn't bother me as much as a few other aspects of the game. Still though, it's a technically impressive game, has an epic, cinematic feel at times, mass murdering people while riding a freaking dragon is really cool, and I don't really feel like I completely wasted 60 bucks (though I do wish I had bought the new Metroid instead).

Then ignore it, because clearly other people (people who have an opinion and aren't here solely to complain about the threads existence) seem to have some input. Honestly the way some people around here talk you'd think I needed a friggin permit just to start a thread and if I don't scour the entire forum for anything similar to my question it's like I just dialed 911 for the hell of it.

Don't listen to them, the "did you do a search guys". the search function is way over rated. ask your question, you'll get some good answers, and some cry babies who have time to complain about you not using the search, but no time to answer the question.

I too am enjoying the game. The controls take some getting used to and the targeting could be a bit better, but its still a fun game. Plus I am enjoying the storyline and the graphic environments are very nice. Some aspects of the bad reviews were spot on for some of the bugs in the game, but most I found were overly critical. It seems like all the reviewers felt a dragon should fly and maneuver just like a jet or high speed aircraft and not a giant dragon.

Overall I'd rate in the mid to low 7's/10 and recommend people at least renting it and giving it a good 2-3 missions to get fully acclimated with the controls to really start having some fun.

Can other controlllers be used with this game like logeitek, mad catz etc and not have to use the motion control?

I liked it enough to finish it. It has a good story, good characters and great music. The game is only kept from greatness by it's strange and jarring mission objectives. They should have got rid of the constant cut-away objectives. You constantly get new mission objective and have to rush around finding out where to go next and what to do. It they made it more relaxing and less time based the game would have been more enjoyable. The motion sensing for steering works fine after doing the tutorials (which everyone skips), though the gestures for the 180 and dash were hard to perfect a button to push would have worked better. The lock-on targeting was also finicky enough to frustrate you once and a while.

The reviews are not awful, they are average. Some reviewers liked it, some did not. When most games are FPS and driving games it's refreshing to play something like Lair.

I rented it and played it for a while. At the point I had rented it I had heard so much about the broken controls, especially the u-turn and charge controls. When I played it I was surprised how well the controls worked. I had zero issues making the controls work, u-turns worked perfectly every time, as did the charges. The only problem for me was that the game just wasn't fun to play with the controls. It took me out of the game too much instead of immersing me in it. Especially when I would get on the ground and I'd be controlling my dragon with the analog sticks, once I would jump back up and fly I'd always be trying to control the dragon with the sticks instead of going back to the sixaxis. IMO there was nothing wrong with the controls themselves, they just weren't conducive to a fun gaming experience.
