I just saw on the Satellite Guys forum that Dish is have a firmware update for the VIP211 to add the capability to act as a DVR. You have to add an external USB hard drive and pay for the external HD upgrade and you have another DVR! Should be available by around first of the year.

Kind of regretted not getting a second 622 for my bedroom and instead got a 211. Sounds like that decision is now correctable.

Also wondered why they shipped a remote with the 211 that included the DVR buttons. Now that question is also answerered.

Well thats some good news... I've got two of them and that would answer a lot of questions that I had about getting that functionality in my basement and bedroom

I am being told that the USB hard drive on our VIP722 can not be read by our VIP211. Is this true? Has anyone downloaded the 211 upgrade?

Would not surprise me as most STB's External Drives are encrypted and locked to the single box.
