My trusty LiteOn LVD 2001 finally gave up today, and I am looking for something to replace it.

I would like the best possible DIVX/XVID codec assortment, as well as the possibility to upgrade via firmware downloads.

Any thoughts?

price range?
Oppo $150 or Phillips $40, both play anything you can burn.

As I'm prolly still a year or so from going HD TV, a Philips which will play anything is good enough, assuming it is not otherwise feature crippled.

Any models preferred over any others?
