I have a JVC HD-Ila. 52 inch, model number on back of TV is 52G887. I have had the TV for roughly 1 year. When turning on the TV this morning, I got a message saying that the lamp needs to be replaced, to consult my manual, and reset the timer after replacing the lamp. I am a little suprised at the message coming within the first year of the TV, but not upset as I new it would eventually happen. The TV still displays the picture fine from what I can see. There doesn't seem to be any noticable difference in the brightness or quality of the picture. My question is, I wanted to try to wait and get the lamp next month when I get my bonus. Do you think the lamp will last that long?? Is it normal for that message to come up and the TV still be working?? And how long does the lamp NORMALLY work for??? This is the first big screen HD TV that I have owned and I just don't know these things. I tried to find answers in other posts, but after an hour of searching, I gave up. Any help that you can give would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!!!

You probably have around 4500 hours on your lamp. That's when the message appeared on mine. I reset the message and kept on watching until it started to get dull around 6000. I just replaced it and man is it great to see the full D-ILA glory again.
You should have no problem waiting at least a month, if not considerably longer. There's no harm in buying a new lamp before your old one goes and keeping it as a backup, which is what I do. On the other hand, some people buy a new lamp, put it in immediately, and keep the old one as a spare. That way you get to make sure that the new one works within the 90 day warrentee period, which starts when you buy the lamp not when you put it in.

Wonderfull!!!!! Thank you so much for the info. I almost started to cry when I saw the message this morning as I have been waiting for the new DTV HD stations to start and thought I would miss them!!! Excellent Idea on getting the bulb now, and I am gald you told me about the 90 day warranty being from the date purchased, and not the date installed.
Do you or anyone else have any advice as to who I should order the bulb from?? I mean as far as a dealer with good reputation/pricing?? THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

The "Partstore" has the bulb for $229.95. Don't know if this is a good buy or not, but they are good to deal with, good reputation!

If you can't find it at a major retailer, I'd order from JVC (see their website). The problem with looking around for bargains is the risk of getting a second-rate substitute made in some Chinese backstreet sweatshop.
