I was mislead about a 2 year sago to believe this tv would accept all hd formats. I love the hd pic in 1080i but hten this Christmas i recieved a PS3. To my surprise i could not play games in 720p, it would down scale to 480i which is horrible on a 65inch. I called Mits, a rep told me i should have read the manual. Well i had to buy the tv to get the manual and didnt know too much about the diff. formats at that time. Now i dont know what rights i have or what route to go. I like the tv but dont understand why i wasnt informed i may run into this problem that the tv only uses 1080i not 720p. Sometimes watching sports or movies with fire or water i wish i could run it on 720p. Any serious advice would help, i did mention to the rep, when i said all hd formats i did not include 1080p because that would have been unheard of 2 years ago i just wish i had what i thought i paid for.

Set the game to upconvert to 1080i

Your complaint is only somewhat warrented. I have a Hitachi CRT RP (57F59), which supports inputs of 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. Regardless of all those lovely input options, the TV is going to display 1080i every time. Just because a TV supports a 720p input, doesn't mean it can display that scan rate. There are very few CRT RP TVs to my knowledge that can display multiple scan rates, such as 480, 720, and 1080, because of cost. Most just use their electronics to convert everything to 1080i. So, just set the PS3 to 1080i, and the PS3 will do all of the converting, it's more or less a wash most likely as to which has the better scaler.

I don't know the PS3 too well (I'm a 360 guy), but does it not have the same ability as the 360 to output any set resolution, doing it's own scaling? There are several early 360 games that are 720p and 480p only, but you can still set the 360 to output everything to 1080i (or 1080p now). Is that not the case for PS3?

When it first came out it didnt. Then a firmware upgrade upconverted ps2 games and reg. dvds. The problem has been it dosnt upscale the ps3 games if thier only 480i 720p. It still downscales the blu ray disc games. All movies play in 1080i because they downscale from 1080p. Does somebody know for sure if i am able to set ps3 to upscale all content to display 1080i.
