Is this really discrete 5.1??? I remember when ESPN/ABC was using that SRS Surround garbage that was only available in .001% of receivers. So is ESPN's Dolby Digital really discrete or is it just a rebaged version of SRS Surround?

The reason I ask is I was watching the Indy 500 and at the end I noticed in the credits it said something like "SRS 5.1 equipment provided by SRS Labs".

Interesting....thoughts?

It's matrixed 5.1. They still use Circle Surround.

The question is, how did it sound? If if sounded good, why worry about what it is?

I knew it!!! So is this really more akin to Pro-Logic sound?

I have to say, it does sound decent. I would say its comparable to other sports programming on the major networks that broadcast in Dolby Digital.

I think it's terrible and by far the worst with CBS, NBC and FOX being much better.

IMO, CS is better than Pro Logic, but not in the same league as DD.

Wow a flash from the past. This was talked about 2-3 years ago in great detail I can't believe it came up again.

Watching the Nascar race on ABC HD on Sat. Night, my receiver said it was getting Pro Logic, so that was really a throwback to the old days.

On every show? Sunday Night Baseball sounds like it has true 5.1.

On every show?Yes. Anytime you see 5.1 from ESPN HD, ESPN2 HD, and ESPN on ABC, it's SRS Labs Circle Surround.

CS takes 2 channel stereo and creates additional channels, for a matrixed surround experence.

ESPN, ESPN 2 and ABC use of surrounds seems non-existent to me. They are the only channels I notice this with.
