Hello! First post here.
I took a 6-hour round trip to the Midland, TX, BB hoping to see some 50-57" RPs for comparison (my price range), and more specifically for the 120Hz function.
Unfortunately, they didn't have any RPs with 120Hz. They did have a Sam LCD with 120Hz (out of my price range), but the video guy didn't know what to do to show me the mode. Sides, their RP selection was very slim.
I left. I should have called before wasting a day. Now, I have El Paso, Lubbock, Las Cruces (NM) or Albuquerque to choose from, (between 160 & 275 miles away). Does anyone have a recommendation as to a store with not only these (120Hz) RPs, but more importantly the technical ability to show their real capabilities?
If 120Hz really isn't all it's cracked up to be, or is "video-cam-ish," I'll look at lower-tier models and save some dough.
BTW, for reference, my main TV is a Mits VS-451RS (45" CRT), which is a hand-me-down from my grandmother, and is somewhere around 18+ years old. It is still going, and I'm finally ready to jump into HD. And, my computer is Win98SE!
Thanks.

All BB's i'd been to(5) have the Sony A-3000, this set has 120Hz.
The Mit 833's also have 120Hz, but only BB's with Magnolia set up has the 833, don't know what all stores are around you to be much help with this, best thing to do would be to call around and see who sells these sets!

I had actually gone there to compare the 55A3000 and 57833. They only had an A2020 and 73733. They had some Sam LED RPs, but none had 120Hz.
I'm just worried that they'll give me the sales pitch to get me in the store, buy not have anyone who knows what they're doing.
From what I've read, you have the 65734 and 65833. Would you miss the 120Hz on the 833?.
I was figuring if it wasn't worth the money, I'd go to an A2020 or a 57732. Course, I'll loose the 180 bulb on the newer Mits, as well as the 1.3 HDMI.
Here I go again. Probably be another 5 years before I get something.

Like you said, i have the 734 and 833 and unless your into gaming (is where i see a different with 120Hz), I see very little different beween my 734(does not have 120Hz) and 833 on PQ! would i miss the 120Hz on the 833? No!! but my kids would as they are into gaming big time!

I had the opportunity to see the 833s in action at multiple locations in Austin, TX last week.
The Frys store had the 65833 setup in a very special dark corner on their floor and the Mits looked stunning with the demo HD DVD playing on it (using the LG Combo player). I even tried out the serinity HD DVD disk on this and that too looked great. This seemed to be available for immediate delivery.
The same day I had the chance to visit one of the BestBuy stores and they had the 73833 on floor (in Magnolia ofcourse). This set was not configured properly and wasn't anywhere close to what I had seen at Frys. The BB rep told me that they had the 73833 backordred by a month or so.
My next viewing was at the Home Theater Store. This store has very knowledgable reps (no wonder they are called consultants and not sales reps :-)). They had both the 65833 and 73833 in their showroom but neither was hookedup to a HD DVD/Blu-ray player and was playing the HD cable instead. Thus both the sets did not show the quality that I had seen earlier at frys. These were also available for delivery.
Had I just seen these at either BB or Home Theater Store only then I would have passed them off (as they were not setup properly). But the display at frys made all the difference.
So make sure that you have a look at this set (XX833) at multiple locations to do the best possible comparison. May be check with one of friends if any of them have already bought this. That way you can have a proper walkthru :-)
