I noticed today that upon taking Casino Royale out of my PS3 there was a Line across half the disc(starting form the hole, and moving straight towards the edge). I rented it from blockbuster, so I figured it was already there, and used a microfiber cloth to buff it out, which it came out fine, no scratches. I decided to run a test, and put in POTC: Dead Mans Chest and Ninja Gaiden Sigma, taking each out right after inserting them. Sure enough the ps3 left the same mark on each of these discs, after spending a total of 2 seconds in the machine.

Could this be residue left from the ejection device? Has anyone else had similar problems? It's never affected gameplay/playback for me so far, and the smudge comes off easily, I'm just wondering if this is a problem many people are having, or if it is just a problem with my system.

It sounds like there may be some kind of residue inside your drive? Perhaps your son or daughter stuck some peanut butter or something in there, that is if you have a son or daughter of course =)

Maybe you could try cleaning the drive and seeing if it still leaves the smudges.

Do the discs read OK with these smudges? If so, maybe it's no big deal (never noticed it on my PS3, though).

I haven't noticed any problems with it at all, which is good. My brother however had playback problems with Casino Royale.

I don't have any kids yet, and the only things that have come close to my disc drive are discs.

What would you reccommend to do as far as trying to clean it?
