Taking into account customer feedback and some internal testing, we will be making available in the next few days a firmware update for the PS3 (1.93) that fixes the network disconnect issue that some of you have experienced as a result of downloading Firmware 1.92. In addition, we are adding a new firmware update for PSP (3.71) as well, which adds many features that readers of this blog have requested.


Minor fix for the PS3. I'm not sure what's supposed to be 3.71 for the PSP. I thought all the features mentioned in the blog came with 3.70.

Inching ever-so-close to 2.0 & Home.....c'mon, give me something new to play with!

Supposedly the beta isnt going as well as expected. I dunno if it'll make even by october.

Probably won't even be a huge hit really. I see very few people spending time in there virtual pad or in Home at all. And maybe just using Home to meet up with a few friends to jump into a game together which can all be done if the features are put in without Home, but I'm going to put down Home yet only b/c I haven't used it.

Its nice! HOME is nice! It will take time, but hey does anything good?

Mine keeps saying I'm losing my connection. Am I the only one?

Downloading this update right now, but jeez-louise it's slow...

Mine downloaded fine..no problems at all. Even seemed a little quicker than normal.

OK, no probs now. Checked another forum. A few people have had errors in downloading. Just try again and it will work.

I attempted download like 3 times with errors. I rebooted and tried again. Worked. Installing as I type this message.

Why couldn't I go directly from 1.9 to 1.93. It made me download 1.92 and when I went to the PS Store to browse, it says please update...lo and behold, 1.93........strange.

anyone have a direct link for mem stick? My ps3 is going to 4% and errors. Rebooted, same thing.

Strange how some are having problems. This update seemed very small to me, as the whole thing took less than 10 minutes to download and install, using wireless. Still waiting for the big 2.0 update though.

im having no problems, other than it going incredibly slow. i've never had an update take longer than 10 minutes but at this rate, this one will take about an hour.

edit: weird, it took 30 minutes to get to 50%, then all of a sudden, it jumped to 100% within seconds.

The PSP update is out also.

Anyone figure out what this update does? Hopefully it downloads for me with no problem. I'd hate to have some sort of "driver/codecs/virus/reinstall/reformat" problem and have to reboot my PS3 JUST to download something, Awx. Cross my fingers.

I tried for about an hour, and it kept failing at 4%. I rebooted shutdown, even unplugged the darned thing for a min or so. Ruined my normal morning routine of playin some PS3 before I go to work. On the Flip side. My PSP downloaded the 23Meg update file in all of about 3 mins, and installed in another 3 (all the while Im fighting with the PS3)

That was 3.70, If you didn't get that first, all your updates were rolled up to 3.71 for others who already had 3.70 nothing is really new.

mine also froze at 4%, twice. I shut it down and restarted, then the update loaded pretty quick.

however, i kept getting kicked out of online matches in NHL 08. not sure if it was a PSN network error or a EA network error, but it was pissing me off.

Never got a connection error, but it did take about 1/2 hour to download.

I still get PSN sign out errors through with my Linksys router. (Edit: only when media server is enabled)

I was hoping this was going to fix it.

Likewise - the update is not working very well..... I think.... this is a bad sign and I'll skip this update. If it's having trouble even downloading it, I can't imagine how well it will work when installed. I suppose there's a reason my PS3 doesn't force me to get the update like some of them.

What, you need to download and install to log in the the PSN and play games online (same as always)

Yes, you're right, I saw that when I tried to go to the store to see any new offerrings. I spoke too soon! I've got a large mouth and many feet to spare sometimes.

Mine did this as well (twice in a row). After rebooting my PS3 the update worked fine.

I suspect it is one of the network bugs added in the 1.92 update that makes adding the 1.93 update problematic. If rebooting doesn't work, you would probably have better luck downloading the update from a PC, and updating the PS3 through a media key.

It only took about 15 tries. Not too bad.

Same thing with me. Stuck at 4% for the whole night and about an hour this morning until it went thru. Really annoying caused a lot of frustration for not being a big update with any important features other than more "connection" stability which I never had I problem before this anyways..

so when are they going to release a firmware for Java 1.1 or preferably 2.0 support?

Mine loaded with no problems, I didn't have time to mess with it afterwards though to see what it does.

Yesterday mine updated to 1.93 just fine, and I browsed around the playstation store. Today when I just signed on it told me I had to update the system again. Again, it starts downloading 1.93 (which is already installed supposedly from yesterday), and it fails at 4% like the rest here.

Dont know what the hell is going on but I hope they fix it soon.

I'm on attempt #4. I need to download all of the demos, AND the new content for the HOME Beta, but I can't get past 4% for 1.93. And, the US Playstation site still only has 1.92 available.

I unplugged the network cable while the PS3 was on, powered off the system, turned off the switch in the back, plugged the cable back in, powered back on, and the download continued past 4% when I tried again. Worth trying if you haven't already.

Thanks. Powering down and turning it back on seems to have done the trick. Either that, or it just happened to work this time. In any event, it's currently at 35% percent (and climbing steadily), so I think I'm good to go.

i had zero problems with 1.92 and this is just a pain.

I just kept pressing X and I think I got it working on my 5th attempt...

finally got it after 3 power downs... you know a nice feature would be the ability to set the PSN to automatically download updates and then simply have to install them when you log back on.

Not necessarily--I typed post #52 while I was downloading the update. So, it's just your PS3 that needs undivided attention.

At least one of the servers using this URL has a problem- the file length is correct but the thing only D/Ls about 11MB of the file before it 'finishes'. I suspect this is the 4% bug issue showing a different symptom. Same problem using IE and Mozilla.

The direct link you've posted, via this forum, works fine but is slower for me (east vs west server?).

Did anyone notice that the background color of the XMB changed from a deep purple to like a lighter color?

Beyond the normal color changes of XMB which occur on the 15th and 25th of each month ?

The background can be changed to a picture (on firmware 1.90+) or the system default is to change color depending on the current month, and it is similar to PlayStation Portable XMB, except the brightness changes depending on the time of the day. A major color change occurs on the 15th and 25th of each month, the color gradually changes between those dates, but the major change is during the three days before those dates in each month.

With all the updates I still get the annoying PS3 popups when using the web browser anyway to turn those off, so they just default to the same answer?

I had the exact same problem. I just downloaded it to my PC and used a USB memory stick.

In case anyone is a noob like me and didnt already know this. The update file needs to be in the folder /PS3/UPDATE/ on your USB stick. :cool:
