Has anyone else found that their Samsung HLTxx DLP looks better fed 480P than upconverted 1080P?? I just don't understand how it's possible but even the person who calibrated my HLS DLP TV last year agreed the 480P output looked better from my Denon than the 1080P. The same goes for my Xbox Elite. I had the TV replaced through warranty for an unrelated problem and got the HLT model. I expected it to look better this time in 1080P but even this one clearly looks better at 480P when it comes to DVDs.

Has anyone else found this to be the case?

I have my Denon 3930CI hooked up to my HL-R6178W DLP via Audioquest YIQ-5 componenet cables. These cables are fantastic and the PQ that comes out of my 3930CI is outstanding. No desire to use HDMI and upscaling when component looks outstanding.

Thank God I'm not alone. Funny you should mention the component cables because that actually looks better than HDMI on my set as well.

I also have found that 480p looks better than getting fed with a brand new Sony DVPNS77. I gave up and replugged in my 2 yr old Panasonic.

People on the board are suggesting that the Oppo brand looks good. However...can't find it locally in a store to verify...so I am going to pass for now.

I am going to allow the HLT to 'upconvert' within the it own system instead of within a upconverter DVD. I don't know if the purist will agree (any opinions from others?)...but from what I can see with my eyes...that is the best choice for viewing dvds.
