Looking for a cheap (approx. less than $150) DVD/VCR combo unit mainly to use to watch many VCR movies the family has collected. Don't need a DVD recorder. My main issue is to hopefully find one that will output the VCR side of the unit through component or HDMI. I have seen several inexpensive units but only the DVD goes through the component or HDMI while the VCR is limited to standard old video out. Thanks for your advice!

Looking for the same thing here. I have a large collection of VHS tapes, and thought it would be a good idea to buy a new VCR while I still can.
I'm also not concerned with the DVD playback; looking for the best PQ on VHS.

I don't really want the DVD either- just thought having a combo unit would provide more options for output at a higher PQ. Hopefully someone can help us.

Take a look at the Samsung DVD-VR330 combo unit. I own the VR330 and use it as my VCR player and DVD recorder. It has an analog tuner. The VCR is output via component video (it does not have an HDMI capability). A refurb of this unit at TigerDirect was $99 when I checked earlier. I've had mine in pretty much constant use for about a year with no problems.

Samsung DVD-VR357.
Has HDMI output.
Also rated a Consumer Reports best buy (and tied with Panasonic DMR-EZ47V for the best rating with 75/100).
They were on sale at the retail store BB for like $179 last week.
