Hey guys

My Kenwood dv5700 dvd player crapped out today. I picked it up a temporary unit til I could afford a Mcintosh...well that was 4 yrs ago:rolleyes:

Im in the same boat. I cant afford a Mcintosh and this has come at a bad time. I loved the 5700's performance (Disclaimer: Im more of an audiophile).
Im looking to replace it quick for less than $400, til I can get my Mac:D. I can get another one for about $250. But there are alot of other flagship units in that pricerange from that era (sony 9000es, denon, elite)

Im looking for pure performance, not features.

I run an infocus 4805 on component.

Basically Im leaning toward another 5700 or a 9000es.

What do you guys think. Sorry for the newb question, but its hard to compare all the great dvd players over the last 5yrs based on depreciation:confused:

I would but I doubt a 400$ sony (or whom ever) hddvd player would have suitable audio quality when compared to a 9000es or even my dv5700. I could be wrong and wish I were. the sound aspect probably more important to me that picture.

my fronts are Dynaudio Contour 3.3's, my electronics (temporary) HK AVR8000, B&K REF7250II, Straitwire Rhapsody... Im more interested in the audio. (I have more $$ in my front speaker cables than my projector)

But if by chance Im wrong about the HD DVD players then Im sorry for my ignorance and Ill buy one tomorrow.

Does it also have to play DVD-A/SACD?

Nope. Progressive scan is the only feature I can think of that I want. (The only reason I mention that is the early mcintosh's lack that) Other than that just pure performance.

Ive been looking and finding alot of units, pioneer dv47, and dv48 (which claims to upconvert to 1080i/720p). But they also claim triple 24bit Burr brown DAC's! The Sony 9000es 999es, Ive never liked sony. They have been cheap, and sound like crap (too harsh). But these seem to be reference players so....

Are there any not so main stream dvd players out there that im missing.

No suggestions? Or am I perfect in my hunt?

Man I remember the Pioneer Elite DVD players being great units for the $, but they are so cheap it makes me wonder. The DV48AV boasts 1080i/720p upconversion, and triple Burr Brown Dac's. I know good on paper means nothing especially for audio. Has anyone had any experience with the Elites (the 46, 47, 48...)

Im talking to myself arent I:D

If audio is your main priority, try to find a used Denon. 2000 series or higher. Audio is very good, especially the higher you go up the totem pole. VIdeo is very good as well, for the era.

Yeah I was thinking about that. The 2910 is a good price.

Im auditioning a Marantz dv8300 right now. Its nice but I wouldnt take it over the kenwood. Ive got to find a local place that will let me audion the Denon 2900/2910, Sony 9000ES...

Panasonic XP-30. You can find it for cheap. It won't do any scaling tho...only 480P. But I find that performance wise, it does very well especially on the HQV torture tests. There are exceptions, however.
