View Full Version : Dish Network - No NHL Center Ice this year?
guitarlp 09-13-07, 04:57 AM I was ready to order my NHL Center Ice on DISH to hopefully get my early bird discount but there's nothing on their website. All it shows is:
Check back here next season for more information on NHL CENTER ICE!

So I did a little reasearch and it turns out as of September 10th no deal between the NHL and Dish Network has been reached. I've heard DISH say (from random people on the net... like that counts :) ) that they will offer NHL Center Ice and that they're currently trying to work out the HD portion of the contract.
Is anyone else upset? I finally switched to satellite from using cable my whole life and I LOVE IT. But no NHL Center Ice? That's a big letdown. I really hope DISH can work something out and get us our hockey! If not, I may be forced to get a cable box to go along with my satellite for the next 5 or so months. The only problem with that is Time Warner is terrible in my area... and it would cost about $50 a month just for service and a box from Time Warner. Over the course of a season that would be around an extra $300 just for the cable service.
rdgamblr 09-13-07, 09:04 AM hmmm while i hope this is worked out and for the better with more games in HD I have to wonder. I have an upgrade coming for dish to HD next week maybe i will bump it back a week. I was considering switching to D* for the upgrade i might just have to do that after all.
drsimnal 09-13-07, 09:28 AM They'll get it worked out. I've had CI for 2 seasons now with E* and I am planning on watching my beloved Pens again this year.
They specifically mentioned NHL Center Ice, NHL Network channel, and HD games on the Charlie Chat Monday so I would think all is in good negotiation-wise even if not completely closed yet. They even threw out Oct 1st as an expected date to launch the NHL Network, which I wouldn't have expected if negotiatons were going badly.

The NHL Network and NHL Center Ice are two different animals. The NHL Network (U.S.) is run by Comcast. NHL Center Ice is run by inDemand.
BTW, Comcast in my area has announced that they will be adding the NHL Network on October 1st.
Wow. I just signed a 18 month contract with dish... I would of switched to D* if I had any idea they might not get the CI package. They better get this worked out if not they atleast better let me out of my contract.
Gary Murrell 09-14-07, 10:10 AM no CI from Dish and I will personally cause some major problems , everyone knows I am good for it :p
for those who haven't seen the NHL Network, it is friggin sweet, it's like hockey heaven

NHL network: will that be in SD or HD? I cant really watch hockey in SD after watching it in HD.
The nice things about Center Ice is that 200 plus games will be in HD this year...can't wait!

I don't think anybody knows yet.
There still hasn't been an "official" announcement from the NHL or Comcast that the channel is launching along with details on game coverage.
My guess at this point is at a minimun some of the games will be HD - even if the channel is SD and the HD games are put on a "HD special events" channel.
eddieras 09-14-07, 02:47 PM from the Toronto Globe and Mail
NHL Network will launch in the United States in time for the start of the regular season, sources say. The network, which operates out of Toronto, will air basically the same programming in the United States as it does in Canada.

Marcus Carr 09-14-07, 03:05 PM Well it is run by Comcast...

Comcast and Dish have announced that they'll carry it. One of DirecTv's channels in engineering mode is titled "NHL".

"wrapping up negotiations" - so maybe not a done deal yet but it sounds very close.
mikemikeb 09-15-07, 02:01 AM NHL network: will that be in SD or HD? I cant really watch hockey in SD after watching it in HD.I don't like Comcast for much, but I can commend its commitment to HD. It's been airing my local sports teams' games when it gets the rights, inclding the local hockey team... Although, if I recall, highlight and other shows are upconverted widescreen 480p at best, I'd be surprised if NHL Network doesn' have games in HD, at least on Comcast, but with the other providers....
I was reading through the minnesota wild forum and found a poster who had some pretty interesting information.
"Yes, and rumor has it, there will be up to 4 HD Center Ice games availible instead of just one like last year.
And for those wondering... Center Ice is not yet availible for ANY provider yet. Those trying to start rumors that Center Ice is in question on Dish Network need to go back and get their facts straight. They already HAVE a multi-year deal with Center Ice. The Channels aren't availible for the channel guide until a week before the season starts, subscriptions activate when the channels activate on the guide. There is NO DOUBT about the availibility of NCI on Dish Network.
FYI - Just found the NHL CI Subscription activation date for Dish Network this year... it's Oct. 1st.
Also a correction to my previous comment on Center Ice in HD on Dish Network, according to the recent Charlie Chat, the NHL Network will also be launched the same day as NHL CI subsriptions activate (it is part of the NHL CI package), and it will be in HD, and MOST of the Center Ice games will also be availible in HD (Where's that damn drooling smiley when you need it?!?!) Yes, they said MOST NHL CI games will be availible in HD!!!!!!"

I guess he listened or read the charlie chat. Not sure if its legit or not

How did I order it a week ago and why is it showing up on my DirecTV bill then?
blitzen102 09-26-07, 02:57 PM Center Ice is now available to be ordered from Dish.
guitarlp 09-26-07, 03:12 PM Yea... except you can't actually order it yet. I've tried over the net, phone, and DVR and none of them allow you to purchase.
But at least there's pricing and hopefully sometime today or tomorrow they'll get it all programed so we can order.
drsimnal 09-27-07, 08:17 PM Just got my bill in the mail today for CI
eddieras 09-27-07, 09:11 PM any word on NHL Network on Dish? or that they will again show both feeds? i was told by csr that they will not show both feeds, but it looks like there are 16 channels availble, certainly enough for both feeds.
roachxp 09-27-07, 10:55 PM Don't worry NHL Network is coming it doesn't lauch till next week
