I am going to pull down my PJ in the next couple of weeks for room painting. While I have the PJ (Mits HD1000U) down, I was thinking of putting some oil on the color wheel axle. Has anyone done this?
BTW, is there an air filter on this PJ that needs to be cleaned while I have it down?

there is no filter to clean. Also, I agree, I wouldn't try putting oil on the color wheel. Are you having problems with yours?

If a bearing is not designed to be oiled don't do it. There are a few very good reasons.
1. Even if you are very careful it's easy to get oil in places where it isn't supposed to be. You could ruin your projector doing that.
2. Even if a bit of oil resulted in quieter or smoother operation, in short time the oil will get filled with gunk (dust and wear material) or "dry out" and become a gooey mess. This will prevent the wheel from spinning properly.
3. Heat. Few oils are designed to function for extended periods at the temperatures I expect you would find inside your projector.
