I have a Westinghouse lvm37-w3 37" 1080P HDTV, and I am in the market for an HDTV signal receiver. This TV doesn't have a built in tuner, so I need a set top box in addition to an internal antenna (in an apartment :\)
So I'm looking for your expertise :D
I know that this antenna is decent from a co-worker who's seen it in action, but I'm open to suggestion:

and here is the only receiver that I've been able to find locally.

So, that unit is a monitor only and not a TV? For some reason, I don't like the idea of 1080p monitors, unless it is made to be a computer monitor first (which doesn't make sense since it is not a computer resolution).
Anyway, the Samsung unit is one of the few readily available in stores and is good, but not w/o some faults.
However, to proceed, we need to get an idea of where you are so we can determine your prospects for reception. If you can let us know your ZIP code, we can start with that.

my zip is 72404, which is northwestern Arkansas. My co-worker says that he can get Memphis HD stations (about 50 miles away or so)
I would like to have a powerful enough receiver and antenna to get these stations.
If it matters, I use my PC as a gaming PC and HTPC, downloading bittorent TV shows in HD. I have it in my living room, and I have the HDCP compliant video going to the DVI2 HDCP compliant port.
Also, if it matters my video card is an HD2900XT, and I would like to be able to capture the HD signal using the VIVO function, although I've never used this before (as many VIVO cards as I've owned XD)
Again, thanks for the help and fast response.

Antennaweb.org reports the following (these measurements are at 200' to show the channels):

* yellow - uhf KTEJ-DT 19.1 PBS JONESBORO AR 342° 8.7 20
* lt green - uhf WLMT-DT 30.1 CW MEMPHIS TN 122° 63.8 31
* lt green - uhf WPTY-DT 24.1 ABC MEMPHIS TN 122° 63.8 25
* red - uhf KVTJ-DT 49.1 IND JONESBORO AR 137° 16.8 49

With this ZIP code, it is coming up with a distance of ~65 miles to the Memphis transmitters. As such, a high gain directional antenna would probably be the best way to go, along with a good pre-amp.
The stations in that direction are UHF for now, but you have one VHF station in the opposite direction.
However, as you are in an apartment, a small indoor antenna is not going to get it done.
Do you have a view in the direction of Memphis? I would recommend an 8-bay bow-tie Channel Master 4228 at this distance, but I doubt you want a 40" square antenna in your living room. :eek:
For an indoor antenna, an amplified Silver Sensor may get the job done, with a good amp, but it is very much a game of chance. I have some success at 51 miles with one, but that is looking at a 6000' tower (on a mountain).
Without a built-in tuner on your TV, make sure that you can take back the tuner (if you aren't able to get it to work).
The other problem is the possibility of overload from KVTJ which is on the path to Memphis.
