so I upgraded the firmware on my hd dvd player.
it now outputs 1080p/24
I am using HDMI
when I start the projector, it tells me it is getting a 1080p/ 60 signal
is this normal?
am I getting the correct 1080/24 into the projector OR
is the projector not excepting the signal and the player then provides
a 1080p/60 signal.
what should the small white window in the corner which states
"looking for signal" say when a correct 1080p/24 signal is found?
some of you BLU RAY guys must have feed this projector a 1080p/24
please give me detailed info!
thanks

i don't know if you ever heard any response on this issue elsewhere, but i think that the HD70 will accept 1080p/24 (my HD72 will). the issue likely is that the HD DVD players are doing what the PS3 did at first: look for an explicit HDMI handshake verifying 1080p/24 compatibility. if it doesn't get it, it won't actually deliver 1080p/24. one thing is for sure: if the optoma "white box" says 1080p/60, then that is what signal is being received and synced.
PS3 solved this by adding a "force 1080p/24" setting, and it works on my setup. i've also seen at least one thread requesting that toshiba add the same choice.

I did get word in that the hd dvd players are going to get a "forced"
1080p/24 setting as well as a timeing change to 23.97 to get rid of dropped frames and jutter. end of october
all is good
:)
I have the HD70 as well, along with a A20 that I updated the firmware to 2.5. I was under the impression that the HD70 can only accept 60hz? Actually I think its something like it can accept 24hz, but has to use a 2:3 pulldown because it can only display at 60hz.....something along those lines.
Edit: I looked around a bit and found this

There really aren't any strait answers there, but some clues. I've never seen a definitive answer for this question.
Edit 2: I tried sending the HD70 the 1080/24 signal and it kept coming up as 60hz, no matter what I did. In the A20 menu is says "up to 1080/24" which doesn't convince me that its trying very hard to send out the 24hz signal. The only other thing I can think of is to send it the 24 signal after a hard shut down. I didn't want to turn it off, and then back on again so I'll wait for tomorrow to power it back on and see what happens.
