Hi,

I am renting a hd dvr from astound for around 20$ a month. I would like to buy a non subscription hd dvr with cable card support. It would need to have hdmi out . I don't seem to find many of these devices. Surely I am not the only one who wants one. Any suggestions or knowledge of a soon to be released product?

Not sure if you are SA or Moto but this link shows you that the DVRs/DCTs will be coming to retail world.

Even though you will own the box and not pay monthly rental fees you still have to get the CableCARD from the cable company..usually free.

Nor do I expect to see any in the next year.

Around this time next year, we should see OCAP DVRs offered by some CE companies, but these won't function without the cable company's software. Since they'll require cable company's software to function, you'll probably still get hit with the monthly fee.
