Hi
I am connecting the Toshiba A1 HD-DVD unit with a HDMI-DVI cable to the DVI input of the crystalio. The AI outputs 1080i and i have crystalio configured for DVI pass through. I have it zoomed to 1377 lines so it can do the needed vertical stretch as i am using a panamorph lens for the HD-DVD 2.35:1 and 2.4:1 OAR discs to fill in my screen . During motion scenes a subtle appearance of columns ,very light and translucent are seen, many in a row side by side. Any ideas?? They are still there when I switched to a "better" HDMI-DVI cable, but are not there when the Toshiba conencts directly into the JVC RS-1 via HDMI cable at 1080i.
Thanks

It's a downscaling bug of the Faroudja processor. You need to choose a pre-defined (HD) marked timing. If you're using a custom timing you have to make sure that the total horizontal picture size is 2000 or larger (which means LARGE porches on WXGA settings).

Li On will correct me if I'm wrong.

I set the DVI as pass through, so doesn't that mean no scaling? I understand the zoom to 1377 lines is for the vertical stretch for the HD-DVD scope playback of OAR 2.35:1 or 2.4:1 on my screen.

Do not enable "pass through" if you want the VPS2300 to process the input source, in your case, vertical stretch/zoom the image.

For vertical stretch/zoom a 2.35:1 image within a anamorphic frame on a 2.35:1 screen setup, please set under System Config, Screen AR to 2.35:1, then set under Aspect Ratio to 2.35:1. The VPS2300 should do a correct image stretch to fill a 2.35:1 screen.

I am sure Mark will appreciate it. I was able to see the artifacts and they were pretty hideous!

Now, Mark, lets get one of those 586s hooked up using SPDIF for sound and get your 5.1 going.....It will only take an hour!!!! You need the multichannel and a basic acoustic calibration...Do the TACT later!!!

Hi Li On
I can make those changes for my DVI input. But what about the zoom to 1377 lines I now have? Should that be changed to 1080 lines? I believe the 1377 lines zoom was because overscan lines were seen on the right side of the screen and on the bottom from 1080i sources.

Hi Mark:

The zoom to 1377 is to remove the letterbox bars on 2.40:1 material.

To try what Li On is saying you would change the zoom to Auto, leave the screen AR as it is (2.35) and chage the input AR to 2.35. Li On, does this sound right?

Hi Chris
I didn't recognise you from your avatar!!!! I'll try out the new suggestion as a manual setting and see how it looks. Not going to touch the AR presets you configured for me!!
Thanks

I did your suggestions Li On. I don't see the scaling artifacts, but now the 2.35:1 image is about 8 inches too wide, going past the right and left side of the SMX wrapped frame onto my front Black 701 GOM AT wall. The zoom setting on the crystalio display says 1071 lines This is after doing your settings .
Thanks
