View Full Version : no love for Epson pro cinema 810?
seven lust 09-14-07, 10:13 AM I just finished reading the review by Art Feierman about the Epson pro cinema 810 and thought it sounded good and would fit my needs, but I have not seen many threads or an official owners thread here. That got me thinking, why? is it because it is seen as over priced compared to other 720p projectors, or is it something I am not aware of? I would like to use this in a room with total light control projecting an image of 130" diagonal, seating would range from 15ft- 20ft does this sound like it would work well for me , I am still new at this. thanks
Aircooled 09-14-07, 10:45 AM Overpriced in the US. The same unit is called the TW700 in the rest of the world, at a lower cost. A lot of folks are happy with the Epson 400, but I'm not sure how close it is to the specs of the 810. Epson just announced a model TW680, but I don't think anyone has reviewed it yet.
There are quite a few good quality 720P projectors out now under $1500. I'm planning to order the Benq w500 by the end of the month.
seven lust 09-14-07, 06:03 PM well I have not been able to view this projector and it will be about a week before my local store gets one up and running. Just from the specs it looks like it would really be a better projector then the cinema400. even though the 810 is more money, it is still within my range for a projector. I like the zoom and shift of this projector and it should be pretty brite. I will look at the W500, marantz, z5 all on my list to check out. any more comments on the pro cinema810 ?
reconlabtech 09-14-07, 06:19 PM From what I am reading, the Pro 810 softens HD content too much. Even though the black levels are noticeably better than the Home Cinema 400, soft HD is a deal breaker in my book. It all depends on what you want.

Soft??? I don't think so. Projectorreviews says: "Very good sharpness (although not the best)" This is a unique projector, with very vibrant colors, good black level and very bright all at the same time. This is a combination that is very hard to find. Plus it has outstanding build quality and Epson provides great customer service.

bass addict 09-14-07, 07:14 PM I am currently using the TW700 coming from the AE900 and would call it anything but soft. In fact the only 720 pj that I have currently seen that offers a sharper image is the Z5, and it has very distracting SDE. It offers much improved blacks, a sharper image, and better color accuracy than my AE900.
Sent you a PM BTW.
seven lust 09-14-07, 10:10 PM yeah, not soft from what I have read. it projects a sharp image although not as sharp as the z5 but it is brighter and has an explosion of color through out its picture. That is said from reviews I have read, but I will see for my self in a week or so.
reconlabtech 09-14-07, 10:15 PM From Projector Central:
Image sharpness on the Cinema 810 varies. High definition content suffers from softness, especially when compared to other 720p LCD projectors. On good HD sources, fine detail is lost due to this softness. On the other hand, standard definition material looks superb. Details from DVD are rendered cleanly, and the image looks film-like.

So, sure, you can find sharpness and clarity but in this review the HD content was not sharp.

You have to look at the source of the review, not what is written to determine its credibility.

So, establish whether or not the official reviews at Projector Central are credible or not. Provide evidence and vett that evidence with professionally recognised sources.
That's a kneejerk comment without any teeth.
Nonetheless, until I provided amments in this thread, the OP was getting nothing so at least now he has something to consider besides the fact that the PJ is overpriced.
Thanks!
gwlaw99 09-15-07, 03:48 PM If you want an 810 its much cheaper to get a tw700 which is the same thing .
