My neighborhood Thai restaurant stuck one of these on their ceiling years ago...and they never bothered to clean the air path.

In Michigan, we allow cigarette smoking in our restaurants (with a non-smoking section required), and the tar and nicotine did a number on their projector. When I first saw it, I'd SWEAR it looked like it had CRT phosphor burn!

I'm trying to save them some money, as the blue imager is damaged (as was the dichroic filter ahead of it, which they had replaced first) but Sony only sells it as part of the whole prism/lens assembly...for over $1,600!

If anyone has a VPL-HS10 that is broken, but they haven't yet sent it to the garbage heap, I would greatly appreciate the chance to see if that part can be salvaged.

It would make them very happy...and make it so I can go in there again for food! I just cannot stand looking at that screwed up picture!

And no, thanks, for suggestions on replacing the unit. For the time being, they've got a bulb and two air filters they already bought! I warned them they are just buying a few years until they have to spend for a new one...maybe!

Cheers,
John

I don't have any direct help for you, but you can expand the search to a VPL-HS20 as well. They used the same mount, cables, filters, bulb, etc. An HS20 should go for much less on Ebay than the $1600 replacement parts from Sony.

Oh yeah, thanks for that.

Plan B IS to buy a used one and run it with this chassis as spare parts.

I've seen HS10s around $700, that's not too bad.

I know we can get some really cool stuff for just over a grand, but then they'd be throwing away a $250 bulb and $50 worth of air filters that I forced them to buy!!

Thanks again for the reply.

Cheers!
