Although it's not my cup of cocoa, for those interested in this Sci-Fi channel show...every episode of the series is being broadcast as a marathon on UHD, starting this Saturday at 2:00 AM EST and ending at 10:00 PM.

I have my TiVo set to record the entire season and I'm hoping it's not bad. I had never even heard of it before I saw the show listed in UHD's schedule. At IMDB it doesn't even have five votes so they weren't much help. Worse case is I'll be deleting a whole lot of shows... but since I have 96 hours of HD storage I'll give it a chance.

Painkiller Jane (PKJ) has been running on Sci-Fi on Friday nights since April. Checking the schedule, season 1 with 22 episodes finishes next Friday on September 21 on Sci-Fi. It is a 20 hour marathon, so Universal-HD is presumably running the first 20. However, PKJ has not been well received and has gotten poor ratings on Sci-Fi. Don't get too invested in this because Sci-Fi has canceled the show and there will be no season 2.

It is odd that UnivHD is doing a full 20 hour marathon for this show, because I don't see it on the future schedule. Some sort of contractual burn-off all in big block on a slow Saturday? Personally, I would rather see UnivHD air Eureka starting with Season 1 from last year.

Anyway, the good news for recording all 20 hours is that UnivHD has a low bitrate, so the entire 20 hour set won't take up as much room as 20 hours from HDNet (although your mileage may vary for other HD channels depending on your provider). The bad news is that UnivHD has a low bitrate... :eek:

UHD looks great on my local cable company compared to what it did on DirecTV. I remember all those pixels jumping all over the screen on their promo commercials with DirecTV. They can't be found on my local cable.

I upgraded to 750 GB drives today so each TiVo HD can handle a mere twenty shows. :) I'm not expecting much from Painkiller Jane.

Certainly not like way back when I recorded an X-Files marathon. I had never watched that either. I think it was seasons one through five... and I got hooked into the following seasons. If this is decent I'll just consider it an extra long movie.

Well it's 2:24 am and still no Painkiller Jane, nothing but previews of upcoming fall shows and HDNet promos. :(

It finally started. Looks a lot better on UHD (even on D*) than SciFi.

Cheap stunt. DVRed the pilot episode and they put on an NBC FALL PREVIEW for the first half hour promoting their fall lineup. Only got about 2/3rds of the show.

I learned (from the new STAR TREK:TOS digital broadcasts) to add an additional 15 minutes at the end, so I didn't miss as much as you. Looked good in HD, but as the show went on, I didn't feel cheated on missing the last 15 minutes. More relieved actually.

Already checked it out on SciFi. Took a pass because she wasn't the bad mofo I thought she'd be.

I never bothered with this show in SciFi since it was in SD and I barely heard about it... I believe the show has been canceled, so unless something changes, I am going to skip this one.

The show has gotten better over the last few months. The stories are better and the main story about what happened to Jane is starting to unfold. It does appear that they are trying to take elements from Blade Runner (notice the Deckard Street sign?) or are paying tribute to the movie. Neros (instead of replicants), dark enviroments, rains a lot, futuristic, etc.

I think the show is good and should have gotten a chance for a second season.

Agreed, I thought the show got a lot better over the last month or two, the characters got a lot more human and compassionate as the show went on.

I'm glad to hear it got better, but I tuned out after a few episodes. I really looked forward to the concept of "X-Men meets MIB". But eventually, it came down to having only enough time in my schedule for one show about a super-secret agency invesigating the paranormal where the lead character can't be killed, and Torchwood won out. A few years ago I would have gotten stuck on this show but these days the competition is too strong.

Anyone who enjoys this kind of thing needs to check out Torchwood. I caught the pilot on BBC and now I see that HDnet will start carrying it next week.

It's a London based MIB with very dry humor like Dr. Who.Actually its based in Cardiff, Wales not London. :) Hence the odd accents (English with Welsh regional dialect).
Anyway, enough of the nitpicking, I also watched the pilot of Torchwood on BBC America and was pleasantly surprised. I Tivoed the second episode today and will watch it later. It should be much better on HDNet.
Back on topic...I tried watching Painkiller Jane on UHD last night and just couldn't get into it. Didn't make much sense to me and the camera work and scene transition, etc. effects were a bit extreme.

Next week is the Season Finale.
I started watching this show since the first episode aired and although not looking good through first 4-5 episodes, it has gotten a lot better.
Too bad it wont have a second season.
