View Full Version : Arcam DV135 - CD's stop playing mid-song

I recently purchased the Arcam AVR280 and DV135. The sound quality has been fantastic (through my B&W speakers) but my CD's stop mid-song.

It started with the very first CD I put into the machine. I was on track 3 and all of a sudden it was like the DV135 froze. The counter stops and the player goes silent. I can skip forward or back one track at a time and it starts playing again (sometimes stopping again but not in exactly the same spot).

At first I thought it was my "old" CD, so I tried a few others. One was a fairly new (only played 2-3 times) and just to test, I even tried to burn a CD and then put it straight in the DV135 (without a speck of dust on it) -- same problem.

I have been able to get through two DVD movies. The first played start-to-finish without problem; the second DVD stopped twice (in different spots) and had to be ejected before starting up again.

Has this happened to anyone before? Any ideas on what I should do (other than to track down my dealer and ask for help)?

Please contact your dealer and have him burn a 4.08 software upgrade disc and run it through your machine. This upgrade solves a bug that affects CD play on some DV135 as you describe.

Also solves DVD play as you describe.

I also have DV135 which is having dropouts & freezes intermittently. Perhaps need to update the software. My version is 4.03. Is there a link where I can find the software to burn to CD or can somebody e-mail me the file?
Thanks,

Hi
Some time ago you posted a query re Arcam DV 135 stopping with the CD, I have had this player for about 5 years and mine has just started doing the same. I am being told by the dealer that Arcam will do a repair for £250! Can you possibly tell me if you managed to solve this problem and if so how you did it.

Thank you for your help

Hi Paul

I ultimately contacted Arcam about the issue and someone there sent me a private web link to a DVD disc image. I used my computer to burn the image to a DVD and then as instructed, inserted the disc.

Next thing I knew the software (firmware presumably) on the player had been updated and the problem was gone!

I never expected it to work but sure enough, problem solved.

I don't know that I would advise you to do the same using my disc image -- who knows whether there have been updates since then -- but if you want I can dig through the closet to see if I still have the disc. Let me know.

Good luck!
-Chris
