This may be old news to most of you guys who are up on the latest, but for myself-I was happy to find out today that i will not have to use Navigator until mid'09.
I was having way too many problems with the 8300HDC, so I swapped it for the older 8300HD today and boy am I happy I did.
No more HDMI issues, no more sluggish user interface; back to quick channel changes, and no freezing. The new interface really tested my patience levels...
Coupled with my new Panny plasma, im back to being to being a relaxed TV watcher:D

What software is your box using now? Passport?

Navigatopr is the new user interface being rolled out by Time Warner Cable. Its incredibly slow.
The older version is called "Passport", and I find it more user friendly and a heck of alot quicker.
bfdtv-yes, I now have the older Scientific Atlanta 8300HD with the Passport user interface.

My question is the 2009 bit.
What market are you in?
How do you know that TW will not flash your current non HDC box and force Navigator on you?

A buddy of mine knows the "Manhattan-East Side" supervisor; he was told by him that the company will not enforce it until mid 2009.
This prompted me to call TWC and speak to a technician to see if I could verify that bit of info. Tech on the phone said the same thing.
Was Passport enhanced to add SDV support? Or is your market not using SDV?

Not sure what you are asking me here.
What is SDV?

SDV is described here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11629857&highlight=SDV#post11629857)
It seems that doing SDV requires either SARA or Navigator. This means that Passport users will not get SDV channels as they are added, and adding channels is what TWC has to do to keep up with Satellite. Locally, the rumblings over at TWC indicate Navigator rollout has to be complete by no later than the end of Q1 2008.

I know that my last box was OCAP...
I gotta tell you though-its gonna take a lot for them to pry this box out of my hands.
The SA 8300HD with passport is so far superior with regard to performance that its liek apples and oranges. Yes the HDC/Navigator has a couple of new bells and whistles, but by no means do they make it worth having to deal with that super slow interface.
Besides, the fact that you dont know excatly what point you are at while watching a recorded show or how much time is left-was an incredible annoyance to me.
...I gotta tell you though-its gonna take a lot for them to pry this box out of my hands..From what I read in the local TWCNY thread—they don’t have to pry it from your hands. They can “flash” your current box with the new “upgrade” ...and you will be sitting in a brand new Navigator ...whether you want to or not.
