As part of a publicity stunt they claim the house belonging to the producer of the vampire miniseries "Gabriel" (http://chayanneesgabriel.lamusica.com/#) belongs to Chayanne the star of the show. Oh well that is showbizz.

Spoiler alert:

In the first Spanish vampire miniseries Gabriel (http://chayanneesgabriel.lamusica.com/#), there are two vampires the bad one Francisco Pizarro (former conquistador) that comes to present day Miami to wreak havock and there is a good vampire Gabriel played by Chayanne. The good vampire does not kill he has an elaborate blood transfusion throne instead. There are a couple of scenes where Gabriel is seen in the home theater getting a glance at the sunup (or is it sunset).

True to the essence of its name, "El Gran Concierto" (The Great Concert) will display an artistic repertoire the likes of which Miami has never seen before, with musical performances by the biggest stars in the Latin music industry: Chayanne (the popular star of the megaseries "Gabriel"), Luis Fonsi, Carlos Vives, Cabas, Marco Antonio Solis, Alejandro Sanz, among others.
"El Gran Concierto" is a celebration of SBS' history as a successful Hispanic media and entertainment company and will honor the life and achievements of SBS' founder and Hispanic media pioneer Pablo Raul Alarcon who was a devoted representative of the Hispanic community. Superstar Shakira and "La Academia Latina de la Grabacion", organizer of the Latin Grammy, will honor him for his contribution to the growth and diffusion of Latin music in the United States for 25 years.
Do not miss this historic musical event. Tickets for the event are available for purchase at the box office at the American Airlines Arena and on Ticketmaster's website at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-866-448-7849

Now I have to go looking for a local dealer to supply the 16 channel ada amp and a suitable fujitsu 50 1080p replacement, not to mention re-doing the entire AMX in the Theater where the client and I were recently stiffed at least $4,700 by a company named Sound P_________, of Coral Gables. Caveat Emptor.

Fortuitously there are other local dealers with a vision of the bigger picture; the company headed by a fellow forum member is willing to redo the amx program pro bono, with my full assurance that we are going to share the publicity motherload together for Helene and Prometheus.

Thanks Joey, but I don't think I could pass step 1 of the vetting process- too bad because I am probably the best man for the job of outfitting the old theater with an all AMERICAN VALUE ADDED super contrast enhanced DCI systems.

I heard all the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Ex Execs, who pocketed many millions, now have some spare change for Cineramax home theaters now that the Presidential campaign is over!;)

Hola,

Msrp is closer to 48k, sans mods.

When the 1200 comes out it will have an instelligent fan system that reads the wattage of the lamp and takes it down from 55 db with a 2k lamp to somewhere around 38-39 db with a 1kw.

saludos

Peter:

Who do you use to calibrate these DCI units?

CINERAMAX
11-29-08, 12:10 PM
I use a barco certification DCI professor, Ray Callahan of VRT. Inc.

The bitchest part is getting the lamp focused , first you optimize for brightness and then you knead any flicker out of the projected image , like kneading dough.;)

SHOOTING THE COLOR is done with a pr 650 or 680 outfitted with the 2 or 5 nm accuracy software set. To calibrate this unit every 120 days is like 4 grand.:D

There is no more accurate color on the planet, very different looking than the last crop of 1080p dlp's , maybe when you get your new christie if the color filter works well you will be able to get very very close.;)

It tooks months attempting via rs-232, we ended up doing the way Movie Theaters (and Odyssey) do it with GPIO ports.

Im interested in this comment, I fought a Digital Projections Mercury HD for days with no luck on the "hold down On button for 4 seconds" crap, they offer up no serial codes, nothing, I spent days trying to figure this one out.

Can you explain a lil more indepth

CINERAMAX
12-11-08, 09:32 AM
Hi Mark, I will be happy to illustrate over the weekend although this is a feature used only for Digital Cinema.

Yeah some Genious at DPI decided toi use a double ir code for it's command structure and consequently the ir commands cannot be taught to third party remotes. Cutting to the chase you will need to find the Mercurys rs-232 and program it into something like an amx. I do know an excellent and reasonable amx programmer for ya.

TSHA222
12-17-08, 01:16 AM
Slightly off-topic, but I am re-programming my Crestron system (after not having a unified remote solution for over a year!!!!) and I have a Titan from DPI. I can do RS-232 but all I really need is to be able to turn the projector on and off. For anything else, I will use the Titan's remote. SO... do the Titans have this IR learning issue with the power on/power off like the Mercury? I really hate to lose one of the RS-232 ports on my Cretron controller just to turn the thing on and off. Sorry to hijack your thread here but I knew you would read and respond ;)

CINERAMAX
12-17-08, 03:06 AM
Chris you can hijack anytime. :)

Yes the Titans have dual signal ir which will not program ionto a standard ir, so rs-232 it is.

Mark P
12-17-08, 06:12 AM
For people that dont have crestron, what then? and where do you get these RS 232 codes, I remember dreading that I got a DP Mercury HD for this very reason.

CINERAMAX
12-17-08, 07:06 AM
The smug answer would be amx. ;) But no, there http://www.xantech.com/products/controllers_switchers/images/irs232a.gifare economical solutions from xantech that convert ir to rs-232.

Oh well then. There goes one of my RS-232 options. At least I found out here before I spent the better part of a day trying to capture the IR code! :)

Im thinking the DPI has an "on with power" setting. Now that I think about it , that was a route I was going to check into.

Universal remote can control lighting and macro times to " off "

To turn projector on macro power on, to turn off macro the PJ off with a 2:00 timer.

Ill have to check into this as the cheapest solution.

CINERAMAX
12-19-08, 08:31 AM

Heh, too expensive!

Actually, the power on is really the way to go here if its infact do-able. I think most that didnt spend the oodles of cash on the Crestron/AMX goodness may consider this route. too bad you cant macro " the Clapper"

Could you imagine having 20 people over to watch a movie, and if its good and they clap in the middle of the movie!

TSHA222
12-19-08, 03:34 PM
My whole house lighting is clapper controlled. I had an electrical engineer and computer programmer tune each to respond to specific claps (enthusiastic, golf clap, slow clap that builds to heavy applause that is common in every sports movie). It works really well so far. I am working on a system for the bathroom that responds to various "sounds" to employ the exhaust for specific time periods. I'm calling it the Crapper. Very promising stuff. I had a prototype and used it for theater lighting but the first time we screened Blazing Saddles, the system started freaking out. :D

Helene had been operating at pure Rec 709 TIp7 mode. We decided to upgrade the cinema with a full suite of Sigmoid shaped gamma curves like in Prometheus.

We did and the owner TV producer tv/radio station chain owner was absolutely thrilled with the depth effect enhancements.

One thing we learned out of the exercise is that with a lower lamp wattage the amount of tolerable gamma gain is lesser as well 2.4,2.6.2.8 vs 2.8,3.0and3.2 with a 2KW.

It looks like a chassis truck, with custom body, at the back, the cab looks like a standard ChevyVan/truck cab. It is a dually so one of the heavier duty models.

Yup, a cut away van express 3500. http://www.gmfleet.com/pages/submodelOverview/2009_Chevrolet_Express+3500+Cutaway.jsp

With gravel guard on the front hood, and some custom plastic bits.
