View Full Version : 480i focus issue when movement, does a VP help?

I've noticed on my Samsung HL-T4675S, when I'm viewing or playing something in 480i, when there is movement of an object (most notably in a game) there is a quick moment it is slightly out of focus... once the object becomes stationary, the focus is sharp again.

The HL-T4675S is a 720P display and I've mostly noticed this when playing Playstation 2 games, but also rarely while watching TV.

In a Playstation 2 game, for example a fighting game at 480i, when the sprites move around, they can seem a bit out of focus until I stop moving them. Then they're pretty sharp... This problem goes away completely if I run the same game at 480p.

This problem isn't just limited to the same game or anything either...

I also notice this when there are animating menus on the screen. The animated part becomes slightly out of focus until it stops... if you're able to run the same game in 480p, the focus issue is gone.

Same thing for things like quick scrolling text in a game @ 60fps.. The text is slightly out of focus until it completely stops, but if you're able to run the same game in 480p, it's completely focused while it scrolls.

None of the "Game modes" really help with this except for one, but that one game mode makes the image look unstable and more blurry to begin with so you can't even notice the problem.

I've also connected my PS2 to a standard 480i SDTV and there isn't a focus issue with the movement or anything... the animated menus are clear, sprites are clear when moving, scrolling text in the game is clear.. and so on.

Does a video processor eliminate this out of focus issue when running 480i content, which is running at 60fps, on a progressive display like my HL-T4675S?

Any input would be appreciated!
