I just hooked up my new Oppo 981HD player to my new Sony XBR4 46 inch LCD TV and I can't get it to up-convert anything. I have it connected by HDMI and my cable box goes to 1080 so I know it isn't my TV. Anyway, I popped in 300 and when I push the HDMI button to change it to 1080p all I get is 480i and when I continue to push the button it gives me the X mark in the corner (meaning I can't do that). I checked the manual but I'm stumped. Am I doing something wrong?

To change resolutions you have to hit Stop.

As moviegeek says, the player must be stopped (you need to be looking at the blue OPPO splash screen) in order to change output resolution.
