At the time I bought my first projector, the Infocus X1 was probably the most talked about projector here....
A year & half later I traded in the X1 for a 4805 (at the then unbelievable $550 black friday staples deal)...Again the 4805 (and z2/ae500) was the most talked about projector ere...
Now I just sold the 4805 (and put an order in for aw15). In any event, I see no recs for Infocus products...

Did the company simply fail to keep up with the competition? Or are the prices too high?

They chose not to stay in the budget market. They still have offerings for the +3k market.

Stock 52 bucks in 2000. Under 2 bucks in 2007. They have been losing money for quite a while. This has been a long hard fall. I think too many players with much deeper pockets are in the game and they can no longer compete on the low end or high end.

Naming their products a la Fisher Price and Tonka didn't help any.;)

"Play Big"?

Seriously...

Too bad someone didn't make better decisions at IF. They sold what literally seemed like billions of IN72 units and they still sold ALL of them within just a few short months. They probably could have made 3X as many and still sold them all at a profit.

check this out (For the second quarter, InFocus reported revenues of $73.6 million and a net loss of $7.8 million, or $0.20 per share, compared to a net loss of $13.0 million, or $0.33 per share, for the first quarter of 2007 and a net loss of $12.8 million, or $0.32 per share for the second quarter of 2006.)..they've lost over $30 million over the last 9 months

Yes, and so was my LS110. Actually, with the IN82 just around the corner, maybe InFocus isn't quite finished yet.
