Greetings all,

I'm thinking about making the jump from a plasma to a projector. The wife seems very keen on football games at 80+ inches. (yes, you read that right.)

The model I'm considering is an Acer PH530 (720P)

The plasma model I have is a TH42-PWD8UK. (Which is the EDTV version.)

I'm wondering if anyone will chime in and give me an idea if I'll be seeing an improvement in quality, comparable, or worse?

The seating distance is ~12' and I plan on having a 90 inch or so screen.

As a owner of projectors and plasma's I would say if your going to do a projector do it right, get a Sanyo Z5 or a Panasonic AX100 and forget that Acer.
Plasmas have a great picture, so get a projector that will also have a great picture, the AX100 would be the best choice.

Either one is a good choice - Panny AX100 or Sanyo Z5.

I went from a 42PX60U to an Acer 530 mainly due to space constraints in my new place. The Acer comes pretty close to reproducing what I saw on my Plasma, but at a MUCH bigger picture. The biggest loss from going from the Panny to the Acer has to be black level which looks a bit more "LCD Like".

Unless this is in a room with 100% light control, I'ld keep the plasma and have a screen drop down in front of it for projector viewing. That'ld be sweet.

I think the image would be comparable as the plasma is atleast a couple years old now. Something like a Panasonic AX100U or a Mitsubishi HC3100 would be awesome

Thanks for the comments.

I'm trying to keep projector/screen combo under $1000, but I might be able to stray a bit.

The Sanyo Z-5 is very attractive, but a bit more than I wanted to spend. I don't mind sacrificing a tiny bit of picture quality for the larger picture.

Is there a projector that is just a bit more expensive than the PH530 that you guys and gals would recommend?

Hi guys,

I just found a deal on a certain website. It's a Mitsu HC1500 projector, Premium Elite Black Velvet High Contrast Grey 92" Fixed Frame Screen, Ceiling Mount, 25' Component Cable, and an upconverting DVD player for $1249.

Is that a good deal?
