Since v1.3 was released on 6/06 why aren't all new HD players,TV's and receivers v1.3 compliant?I realize it's a marketing ploy by the manufacturers to upsell you to their top-of-the-line machine but I think it should be a requirement for all machines that use HDMI.
I don't think it's fair that I have to spend big bucks to listen to DTS-HD audio on my HD DVD player.

how would they make their money if they didn't ;) Welcome to the world of electronics, where in three months (if you are lucky) you product is obsolete.

And cheaper.

100% correct

I take it back, not obsolete. Instead, in 3 months, you are outdated and cheaper (Thank you Moore's Law!)

Speaking of which, I ran into my first bonafide HDMI incompatability recently. I've had a Toshiba 52hm84 720p DLP monitor for about 3 years, and never had an issue with it. I had been running my Toshiba HD-XA2, PS3, and DirecTV HR20-700 via a 5x1 HDMI switch into my TV's only HDMI input for the past 9 months, and never had a problem. I decided to upgrade to an Onkyo TX-SR805 (from a TX-SR703), hooked up all my equipment, turned HDMI monitor to on, and got no picture. The only way I could get a picture was if I passed through the audio on the 805, but then all I got was 2 channel PCM. Messed with connections/settings for 3 days, then sent it back, hoping it was an issue with the 805 and not my TV. Well, got my second 805, same problem. So I determined that my HDMI input on my TV is only activated when it receives both video/audio, and not just video. Unfortunately, Toshiba reps confirmed my theory. So now, I have a worthy A/V receiver upgrade that's essentially worthless as far as the reason I got it.

So now, do I sell the 805, keep it for future use with a front projector, or what? Toshiba couldn't confirm that they could upgrade the HDMI board in my monitor, but even if they could, it'd be a better use of my money to pick up a nice $1000 720p projector.

Irritating (and not cheap, anyway I choose to do rectify it).

are they the same thing? i am looking to buy the denon 2808ci receiver....i am mostly interested in the DolbyTRUEhd feature. Since my HD dvd player already decodes TrueHD sound and so does my receiver, will it unlock the HD sound?
