View Full Version : NBC SNF Week 2 - San Diego at New England - homcom 09-16-07, 07:30 PM San Diego at New England 8:15 NBC. Please include your source (call letters and city) and provider (Cable, Sat, OTA, ST). SNF Mixer 09-16-07, 08:02 PM Hi from controversial Foxboro. WS homcom 09-16-07, 08:03 PM WDIV in Detroit via Comcast. Football Night in America looks like typical NBC. At least it looks better then last week when WDIV had some serious local problems with PQ. hokiefan 09-16-07, 08:05 PM NBC Backhaul - Looking good so far, slight purple glow on the whites though. 36Meg mpeg2 video feed. Screen Cap (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/hkbburg/vlcsnap-3421363.png) (dialup warning, 5meg file). IAM4UK 09-16-07, 08:40 PM OTA KOB-DT Albuquerue, NM. Typical NBC pixellation on close-ups with motion. Great interview of the Commish by Costas. Challenging but respectful, and the Commish answered directly. He appears as a man in charge. San Diego D better step it up. lovethe5.1 09-16-07, 08:41 PM Sounds perfect here in Nebraska on the dish, great job Wendel! Kib 09-16-07, 08:46 PM Ya' know, I've had it with this... If NBC is not going to support the efforts of Wendel, and all the other people involved in putting this broadcast together with thier best effort in getting those guys good work out of the truck, on to our screens, then unless there's some compelling 10-0 matchup late in the season I'm done watching. Hope the suits have done the math, hope the sponsors don't care that much about somebody going on the cheap with a program that has thier name on it, and I wish everyone working the gig well, but that's it... Sunday Night Football is dead to me. You're looking at one less pair of eyeballs.... hokiefan 09-16-07, 08:49 PM NBC cameramen putting those Hidef cameras to good use and trying to steal some plays from the SD playbook :) Armband plays (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/hkbburg/cheaters.png) ABCTV99 09-16-07, 09:05 PM Sounds phenomenal. Bombastic, cinematic, very nice job for a live TV show. That buzz thing they just did with the low-frequency info from the sound design on that animation with the John Williams vamp...my living room was shaking...very nice. keenan 09-16-07, 09:06 PM Sound is good, but typical for NBC, the video is not all the great, Static images are fine, but as soon as the camera moves that field turns into an unfocused murky mess. Occasional blocking as well. San Francisco - KNTV - Comcast hokiefan 09-16-07, 09:10 PM Did I hear a "late as Fu.." overheard from the refs mic?? :) vtfan99 09-16-07, 09:12 PM Everything looks good here. Actually, its the first time I've had a stable signal as I've been having antenna problems. Norfolk - WAVY - OTA ABCTV99 09-16-07, 09:29 PM So Wendell who's idea was it to use "Secret Agent Man" on that bumper to break? I thought that was hilarious. TVOD 09-16-07, 09:33 PM This game looks to be over at this point. IAM4UK 09-16-07, 09:39 PM Chargers simply not impressive so far this season. Pats quite impressive, but exposed and shamed as cheaters. SNF Mixer 09-16-07, 09:41 PM So Wendell who's idea was it to use "Secret Agent Man" on that bumper to break? I thought that was hilarious. Producer Fred Gaudelli gets credit for that one. Splicer010 09-16-07, 09:49 PM San Diego at New England 8:15 NBC. WLWT-DT HD, Cincinnati, Cable, LG LST3510a QAM tuner, Toshiba 51H83 CRT RPTV:D Audio excellent, video excellent...No complaints. Well except that NE is winning. ;) What does "ST" stand for??? SNF Mixer 09-16-07, 09:52 PM Street? :) ABCTV99 09-16-07, 09:59 PM Chargers simply not impressive so far this season. Pats quite impressive, but exposed and shamed as cheaters. I don't condone cheating nor am I a Pats fan, but its one thing when you cheat and win a contest that you should not have. Its another to get caught cheating, stop doing it and still effortlessly outclass and embarrass very good opponents. Although I'm sure karma will rear its ugly head and what goes around will come around for the Pats. Spiky 09-16-07, 10:13 PM Mpls, OTA. Last week was the best NBC we've had, except for most of the 2nd quarter being SD. But tonight is basically back to blockiness as described above, just like last year. It's not the worst it has ever been, but they clearly don't care about PQ. And presumably ST means Sunday Ticket? But that doesn't apply to NBC, maybe it means something else. Splicer010 09-16-07, 10:15 PM Do you think that the opposing teams have changed their ways??? Not likely therefore still giving NE an unfair advantage. CPanther95 09-16-07, 10:15 PM It was copied from the earlier FOX and CBS football threads. ST = Sunday Ticket, but obviously doesn't apply. Splicer010 09-16-07, 10:17 PM And presumably ST means Sunday Ticket? But that doesn't apply to NBC, maybe it means something else. Never thought of that...Kinda figured that would go in under SAT??? But you are most likely correct.:D homcom 09-16-07, 10:19 PM Never thought of that...Kinda figured that would go in under SAT??? But you are most likely correct.:D He is correct. I copied it from the afternoon threads, but obliviously it does not apply here. CPanther95 09-16-07, 10:22 PM Just leave it. With all the mobile devices out there, it's not unheard of that we may get some reports from fans in the STadium. homcom 09-16-07, 10:24 PM Just leave it. With all the mobile devices out there, it's not unheard of that we may get some reports from fans in the STadium. Yeah STadium thats what I meant. ;) Spiky 09-16-07, 10:25 PM Ok, about the camcorder last week.....don't teams often change their signals? Because stealing signals is perfectly legal if you don't use electronics, teams even alter them a bit at the half, according to some. Are they wrong? (splicer just made this same comment, I think) Doctor 09-16-07, 10:34 PM As can be seen from tonight's broadcast, it's quite legal to steal signs and teams have a multitude of ways to do it with all the pictures they're allowed to take and the cameras that can be positioned in upper portions of the end zone. The Patriots got busted for one specific way of doing it, namely having the camera on your bench trained right across the field at the other team. SNF Mixer 09-16-07, 11:01 PM Yeah STadium thats what I meant. ;) I am watching via ST then. Ron_Mexico81 09-16-07, 11:12 PM Wow, amazed at the picture tonight. 3D Like and I hate watching games on NBC .......Saw just a bit of motion blur, but nothing as bad as last week. I rate this game #1 tonight followed by Colts and Titans. 52 inch Sharp Aquos 1080p SA8300 HD Time Warner - Los Angeles TravelFan1 09-17-07, 09:45 AM Comcast of NJ II(Union) - It was as bad as the previous NBC NFL games... I wonder why can't NBC pull a DirectTv and cancel ALL of their lame subchannels in NYC metro while broadcasting Sunday Night... Motion Artifacts, Blurry picture, you name it..... Re Sunday Night song, No offense against heartland people, but the Sunday Night Song is to be sang by a kick-a%^&*# rocker like Pink, not by a country singer like Faith Hill... jefbal99 09-17-07, 10:02 AM This game was much better than the previous NBC games this season (WILX via Comcast in Lansing, MI) Had some blocking while zoomed in and on replays, but graphics look much better, esp while in motion. ABCTV99 09-17-07, 10:39 AM Re Sunday Night song, No offense against heartland people, but the Sunday Night Song is to be sang by a kick-a%^&*# rocker like Pink, not by a country singer like Faith Hill... You're kidding right? cavalierlwt 09-17-07, 01:02 PM Comcast, WHDH Boston. Not bad, not great. Actually the only thing that annoys me is they can't seem to deal with that solid red background of the wall that goes around the lower part of the stadium. Every shot with that red wall in the background just turns blocky. It's minor, but I notice it everytime. scdaf- 09-17-07, 01:12 PM Re Sunday Night song, No offense against heartland people, but the Sunday Night Song is to be sang by a kick-a%^&*# rocker like Pink, not by a country singer like Faith Hill...[/QUOTE] Huh? I think both singers have done a great job with the song. When I saw Faith the first Sunday, my immediate thought was "oh sure, THIS needed messing with!" but I was pleasantly surprised at how well she pulled it off. Dave TravelFan1 09-17-07, 01:16 PM You're kidding right? Nope, I am dead serious. Just to have a very clear message here: I have yet to see a better song/presentation than ABC's "I like it, I'm lovin' it" in the Monday Night Halftime show. And that was with a country singer(forgot his name, isn't he Faith Hill's husband? May be.... Sorry, but Pink kicks some serious.... Faith Hill? If you think she kicks..., you are the one kidding.... And I don't mean whether she's a good singer or not, Faith Hill... let me put this way, Faith Hill is the family presentation, Pink is the rocker/rebel/kick-some-serious one, which is IMHO what that presentation is supposed to be. tonybradley 09-17-07, 01:25 PM Nope, I am dead serious. Hmmmmmm.....alrighty then. I like Pink, but I think you are in the minority on this one bro. Football is a family presentation. I'm not saying Pink is not to be in any family presentations, just commenting on your comment. Faith Hill is an excellent singer, and much more pleasant to look at than Pink (IMO) IAM4UK 09-17-07, 02:24 PM +1 : Pink was hard to watch; Faith is easy to watch davdev 09-17-07, 03:15 PM Ok, about the camcorder last week.....don't teams often change their signals? Because stealing signals is perfectly legal if you don't use electronics, teams even alter them a bit at the half, according to some. Are they wrong? (splicer just made this same comment, I think) Yes, teams change their signals every game, and the smart ones change them during the game. They also have mulitple people calling in signals, but only one is "LIVE". We did this starting in High School, so you better be sure the pros do it. If you lose because someone stole your signals (either visually or electronically) it is your own fault. I am not justifying what the Pats did, but there is very little advantage to record the signals instead of just watching them. For one, unless the tape is being fed back to the booth LIVE, the time it would take to take the tape back into the booth and match up the sign with the play would be much longer than just watching the signal caller real time. And Bettis should just stop whinning. He claims he feels robbed over the 04 championship game. I could understand if it were close, but the final score was 41-27, with NE up 24-3 at halftime, and converting 4 Pitt Turnovers into 24 points. They were killed in that game, and signal stealing had nothing to do with it. scottro 09-17-07, 03:20 PM Producer Fred Gaudelli gets credit for that one. That was quite funny. Belichick has crafted a great cover identity as a crabby, middle aged homeless guy. :p zz-kai- 09-17-07, 03:57 PM Typical horrible NBC HD for me. Time Warner Cable Appleton, WI channel 707. OTA out of Green Bay I think. Blocking, pixelation...etc. Typical junk NBC HD for me. It's hard for me to pay attention to the sound, when the picture sucks so bad. skyehill 09-17-07, 04:02 PM SNF last night via TWC in Chapel Hill NC was virtually unwatchable. What a joke. Tried it via OTA to compare and it was just as awful. The worst part is that NBC in my area has their signal screwed up, so I get a white bar on the left hand of the screen in all of their programming, forcing me to switch to 16x9 mode on my TV, whereas all my other HD channels can be viewed in a 1:1 picture mode. NBC stinks. davdev 09-17-07, 04:05 PM I am surprised so many people are having problems. It looked fine to me (WHDH Boston). It's not as good as CBS, but at no point was I distracted by a bit of Pixelization or Macroblocking. IAM4UK 09-17-07, 04:08 PM There seems to be wide concensus that the Pats did not "need" to videotape signals to gain an advantage. This is actually quite troubling. The commish sent out a memo specifically telling coaches not to engage in such practices, and the Pats wouldn't need to do it anyway, yet there's Coach Belichick having an assistant do exactly that. The only reasons to explain it do not reflect well on the coach. ursa99 09-17-07, 04:08 PM NBC cameramen putting those Hidef cameras to good use and trying to steal some plays from the SD playbook :) Armband plays (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/hkbburg/cheaters.png) Looks like the Commish will be fining NBC. dad1153 09-17-07, 04:12 PM Last night was the first time "SNF" has disappointed me with too-visible-to-ignore macroblocking when the cameras were moving (especially close-ups of players on the field moving) but then again this is my first season watching NFL games in HD. :D Static shots and menus were fine though. WNBC-DT via Time Warner Cable in NYC (with three sub-channels churning away bandwidth like crazy! ). TravelFan1 09-17-07, 04:41 PM dad, that's why I said that NBC in NY should just pull a DirectTv - who cares if you can't watch NBC weather and/or that NBC Wine Country(which should be in HD anyway) during the Sunday Night Match. jeffbal >> Let me know if you have any issues with my new signature, I've just decided to join the HDNET in Comcast bandwagon ;) SNF Mixer 09-17-07, 04:55 PM SNF last night via TWC in Chapel Hill NC was virtually unwatchable. NBC stinks. Hmm. Watching my recording now via TWC in the Triangle (NC). I saw a couple of motion artifacts, but overall it looks good and I don't see a white line. WS keenan 09-17-07, 05:07 PM Hmm. Watching my recording now via TWC in the Triangle (NC). I saw a couple of motion artifacts, but overall it looks good and I don't see a white line. WS Watch the field while the camera is stationary, and then when the camera moves as the play starts. The field turns into a mushy looking mess. Easier to see blocking happens during closeups with motion. We get a pretty good signal here in San Francisco, around 16+mbps, so I'm a little surprised more folks haven't seen this behavior. TravelFan1 09-17-07, 05:14 PM keenan, does your local NBC station broadcasts their weather stuff, alternate channels, etc together with their HD signal? Because that's what they've been doing in NYC metro... Yes, just Weather Plus, or whatever they call it, but it's set at the NBC corporate specified bitrate. I forget what it is but I think it's 1.8 or 2.2, I'll have to look it up. I've seen higher bitrate numbers mentioned from other NBC stations, both affiliates and O&Os even though there is specified rate they're supposed to use. Our local O&O NBC station, KNTV, is so particular about their settings they are the lowest volume station of the majors in this market due to the fact that they run at Dolby specified levels while the other 3 stations run too "hot" or louder. IOW, our NBC station is following the "rules", whereas the others are not. TravelFan1 09-18-07, 09:48 AM Back to the Pink x Faith Hill discussion, I believe I can clarify more with another example. Last night, before kickoff of Philly x 'Skins game, here comes the Monday Night Football song, "Are you ready for some football.... the stage is set, let's get this party started....",e etc... Man, I don't know about you, but I immediately start to get pumped up for the game... then, the song is over and, BANG, the worldwide famous pa..pa..pa pa...." Monday Night intro trademark.... I am SO ready to start watching the game now! Now, Faith Hill, the song is over, I am ready to start watching whatever is on the Disney Channel, that's what I mean, a more family-oriented programming, Vanessa Hodges pictures aside, of course ;) I don't mean to make this a "Faith Hill is prettier than Pink", because if that's what I want to watch, well, then on Monday is out to "How I met your mother" and the HD sight of Robin... :) What I meant with my original posting was to talk about getting ready to watch a football game! |
