I am looking for some new HDMI cables for my set up. ALl lengths are 1m to 3m.

I have read about the claims of active HDMI cables about being superior and meeting the latest specs, etc, etc.. RE: VizionWare's Hi Wirez active cable

Here is the latest press release (Sept '07).

AUSTIN, TX – September 6, 2007 – VizionWare, the Texas-based signal management and signal conditioning company and creator of the award-winning Hi-Wirez™ 1650 Series Active HDMI Cables, announced today the release of the all new Hi-Wirez™ 3400 Series 3.4Gb Active HDMI Cables, the only HDMI cables on the market meeting the new HDMI 1.3 Category 2 specification in lengths beyond 1 meter.

Are these claims true?

THere are a number of passive cables.

I have experience with Monoprice but found the cable I used to have chinsy, loose fitting connector. CHeap? Yes. But I'd rather go a different route.

Any thoughts?

active is not really needed unless

1. very noisy (electrically or RFI) environment
2. Past 35 feet.

if you answer yes to either then you must use active. Otherwise passive works fine.

Obviously, you are a person who has never sat down and viewed cables on an ocilliscope or you would know how many issues there are with passive cables at 10 Meters (under 35 feet, by the way). By the way, the use of the term "active" implies a silicon technology actively rebroadcasting or receiving the signal. Only one I know of with true "active" cables is Vizionware. Amplified, is just that, amplified, along with amplification noise and introduction of judder into the image. Certainly, not a lossless technology.

and you just made an assumption and a terrible one at that.

Given a big enough gauge, those issues would not be issues at all as the resistance is not big enough to affect the slope rate of the digital signal.

what you said is like saying.

If i run 30 feet of 22 gauge wire to my four ohm speakers. Will they sound fine??
