I've been quite happy with my purchase, but wanted some feedback on what to do about this...

The handle you pull on to have the chair pop out and recline has suddenly "sunk" into place. When you pull on it, you have to pull real hard. The chair will then finally pop out, but the handle pops out as well! In order to recline the chair back into it's seating position, you need to push the handle hard back in. Is the whole arm a lost cause or is there an easy fix for this? If any other owners have seen this issue arrise and found a fix, I'll take any suggestions. Many thanks!

Chirpie,

Are your chairs still under warranty? If so, you may consider calling your dealer and have them send you a new mechanism release. That would likely solve the issue of it being so hard to release. But if you're okay with that, then you could probably fix the one you have.

If I remember correctly (sorry I don't have one here in the office), the D-Ring lever apparatus is fixed into place by a single screw, and it sounds as if yours is stripped.

I like fixing stuff so I'll take a look at that first. Thanks!

No problem. Hope you get it worked out! I try to check up on this forum a couple of times a week, so let me know how it goes.

Well, as it turns out it was a piece of plastic inside the handle that traps the spring and makes it taunt. (see pics, the first one is what it's supposed to look like, the second is the broken piece)

I tried gorilla glue on it to put the broken piece back into place, but it didn't hold. D'oh!

SMALL UPDATE:

Serge (Power), who I bought the chairs from, already put in the order for a replacement handle. I'll update when it arrives and I install it. If it's as straight forward as I think it is, it'll be a few minutes fix.

Serge rocks the party that rocks the house. :-)

chirpie - let us know if the new handles work. I have coaster Director series for the past two years (very happy with them) and I had a handle break, serge also sent my replacement handles, but my problem was that the recline mechanism was too tough to open. my wife couldn't even recline and ultimately we broke one of the handles.

Our solution was to take one of the springs off (under the footrest) -- if you have any issues I'll see if I can't take a few pictures and post them. If you handles work, then don't worry about it.

Sorry for the belated reply. (Wife had a premature delivery and slowed things down a bit :-P)

But the short story is the handles showed up and I swapped it out. (Special thanks to my brother who helped flip the chair upside down and held the flashlight... ^_^)

The only thing I did differently is I used a slighty longer screw for fitting the handles back in. It made the fit more snug and secure.

The reclining mechanism is working like a champ again.

I took pictures, I'll post them when I get a chance.

Again, kudos to Serge for his prompt service. I love it.
