I just bought an OPPO DV-980H and hooked it up to my Samsung LN-T4661F via HDMI. I then set the DVD player output to 1080p and went about my jolly way. Things were dandy but there were these green flashes that would occur randomly while watching DVDs, once during every 1-hour episode of a television show. I poked around these forums and found that those were "HDMI handshakes" and I shouldn't worry about them as they are perfectly normal. First of all, how can anyone live peacefully with such a blatant distraction like that?

Anyway, tonight I came home from work and put a DVD in the drive and then walked out of the room to grab some food. I came back a couple of minutes later to find that the TV was no longer receiving signal from the player. After switching it on and off a couple of times and getting nothing, I connected the player to the TV using composite cables and the DVD menu showed up on the screen right away. Now concerned that my TV was inexplicably incapable of receiving signal through an HDMI cable, I desperately tried connecting it to every one of the three HDMI inputs to no avail. I unplugged the power cord from the player, turned off the TV and let them both chill for about 30 minutes. Then I plugged the DVD player back in through HDMI, turned both the TV and player on and it popped back on the screen like nothing was wrong. I was elated but now those pesky green flashes are occuring much more frequently, three times during a 1-hour episode on DVD. What's the deal, Internet People? Thanks in advance for any help or opinions anybody has to offer.

That sounds like a bad HDMI cable, or a loose connection. You might try the HDMI forum here for more info.

try turning on tv lst, then dvd player. this allows the hdmi handshake to take place, according to my pan. display manual. if that doesnt solve problem, then try new/different cable.
