NFL teams need to stop setting off explosives during pre game. There is a haze covering the field.

So far looks infinitely better than the junk NBC was presenting last night.

Everything feels soft to me. Monday Night Countdown was pretty sharp, even the Michele Tafoya/Suzy Kolber hits looked good but the game overall im kinda disappointed with. Also the audio to me has not sounded good, even during Countdown. Sounds like there are some phase incoherencies or something. It's like a chunk of the low-end was missing from the Hank Williams open and the McNabb tease. The starting lineups sound okay, so I'm not sure.

I also don't like that they have killed that kick ass Syndicate open from last year. That really created a nice crescendo at the top of the show. It's almost melodramatic to just go from Hank Williams to the live shot of the stadium, there's no big impact (which is of course what helped make MNF famous).

Like everyone else is saying, the main cams are soft. Everything from the ground looks great. Looks like a typical ESPNHD broadcast to me. Nothing worse than usual, nothing better. Just typical, no wow factor HD.

It sure is nice when they dont shove that hideous ticker down our throats on Mondays though.

Ill take NBCHD's pixelation party over ESPNHD's overall softness any day of the week.

Both networks I consider to be HD travesties though.

I just consider NBCHD to be the lesser of two evils.

Gee, have we already passed the "Golden age of HD"? Things seem to be getting worse regarding PQ.

Fastest three minutes during halftime looked ugly. All the highlights were zoomed. The HD highlights looked horrible and framing was off. The SD highlights from the CIN/CLE game was even worse when zoomed to 16:9.

Were past the golden age of broadcast HD, thats for sure.

Theres always Blu-Ray and HD DVD though. Not much of a help in regards to live sports though :(

Thats what happens when you let graphics designers run amok. They even "shook" the frame when one player landed hard on the ground. C'mon, this aint a cartoon guys.

I like how small the espn scoreboard bug is, but I wish I could move it down like 20 pixels cuz its too high up on the frame imho.

I dont what the hell they were doing with that footage but it all looked embarrasingly terrible. I know sometimes they blow stuff up to get rid of the score bug, but that Browns highlight looked like third generation VHS. Someone has to lay the fist down on quality control on that stuff. I know the PA's that edit that stuff are not really well versed in the technical end of things, but at some point quality has to be as important as content.

I dont mind the score bug either. Last year I feel like it was lower on the screen, down in bottomline space. It works great for letting the HD frame breathe though, centering it low like that makes it feel they're producing a 16:9 show and just placating HD viewers. It does however occasionally cover up a wideout.

Whats up with the impossible tv schedules this year? Why dont programmers increase the timeframe for the games to something reasonable? 8:30-11:30 aint enough time for even a fast moving football game. Especially with the amount of commercial breaks they throw in. Is it some sort of gimmick to get more ad $$$$ or something? I've noticed the back to back college games overlap this year sometimes by a large margin. Its like they are trying to squeeze too much into the same amount of time.

We can save siome time by getting rid of those senseless puff piece sidelines reports. Awful, simply awful.

How exactly would that save time? Its not like the sideline reporters delay the game any.

Weren't they sending a clean feed back to Bristol last year, so that the bug could be re-inserted higher up for highlights? It doesn't appear that they're doing it this year, so that would explain the bug being higher up. Cost-cutting measures, perhaps.

Why did they interrupt The Charles Barkley Show with a football game?

Yea last year they had a separate bug inserted just for highlights that was higher up on the screen so it wouldn't be covered by the bottom line. Apparently they're not doing that this year as the bug is noticeably higher on the screen (or the wrong bug is being put on the air, but I highly doubt that).

Funniest moment with Barkley: he said he didn't understand the advantage gained by knowing defensive signals of the opponent, and deferred to Jaws. Jaws explained the advantage and provided a specific example. Tirico announced that they had video of the very example Jaws gave. Less than two minutes later, Barkley said he didn't understand the advantage gained by knowing defensive signals, and would like to hear from Jaws on the subject!

Anything that adds nothing to a broadcast should be dropped. If the sideline reporters get info on an injury fine, otherwise, stop the puff pieces and feel good stories. There are so many damn commercial breaks duroing the games, it is hard to tell if the sideline reports are part of them. I can tell you that it makes seeing a game live a PITA, especially on cold days and nights.

My thoughts exactly. The overhead cable-cam looked worse than usual, very grainy on long shots.

Watching WOW cable, Cleveland on a 50" Panny 1080p plasma.
