I recently posted this in the DVD board but a helpful gent suggested I ask around in here as it is probably a problem related to the cable I am using (it is the one that came with the OPPO player). Here's my original post:

"I just bought an OPPO DV-980H and hooked it up to my Samsung LN-T4661F via HDMI. I then set the DVD player output to 1080p and went about my jolly way. Things were dandy but there were these green flashes that would occur randomly while watching DVDs, once during every 1-hour episode of a television show. I poked around these forums and found that those were "HDMI handshakes" and I shouldn't worry about them as they are perfectly normal. First of all, how can anyone live peacefully with such a blatant distraction like that?

Anyway, tonight I came home from work and put a DVD in the drive and then walked out of the room to grab some food. I came back a couple of minutes later to find that the TV was no longer receiving signal from the player. After switching it on and off a couple of times and getting nothing, I connected the player to the TV using composite cables and the DVD menu showed up on the screen right away. Now concerned that my TV was inexplicably incapable of receiving signal through an HDMI cable, I desperately tried connecting it to every one of the three HDMI inputs to no avail. I unplugged the power cord from the player, turned off the TV and let them both chill for about 30 minutes. Then I plugged the DVD player back in through HDMI, turned both the TV and player on and it popped back on the screen like nothing was wrong. I was elated but now those pesky green flashes are occuring much more frequently, three times during a 1-hour episode on DVD. What's the deal, Internet People? Thanks in advance for any help or opinions anybody has to offer."

So would getting a better cable, or trying to get a replacement from OPPO, solve this problem? Thanks to anyone who reads this. I hope it isn't too long-winded for the hustle and bustle of today's modern Internet forum.

I'm seeing no replies to this, but wondering how you made out. I just ordered one, and I am on the lookout for any potential problems that I may run in to.

Thanks

In case he doesn't respond..

One of the great things about Oppo is their customer support. I don't think I've ever heard a real horror story about them. Worst case scenario is you send it back to them and get a new one or a refund.

Are you aware that they are releasing a new model, the 983. But it's more expensive than the 980.
