Does anyone know if I can go firewire from my Mits 2k to the T165 and have it use its DVI or component jacks to feed my projector?

Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't.
From my experience, some? all? 5C'd DVHS tapes will not display on T165 from Mitsu if you use DVI. But maybe if you use HDCP'd DVI it will. In my setup:

Mitsu -> T165 -> standard DVI (non-hdcp) the following worked:

Non-5C DVHS: play OK
5C DVHS: black screen

edit: just noticed you mentioned component. That *should* work. but better confirm with someone else.
