I just had to post a report on Oppo's truly outstanding customer service.
I bought my DV-970HD a few days after they were announced by Oppo, so it's an old one. It's been a delight to use, but about two weeks ago, it quit loading DVD discs. CDs worked fine, but all DVDs caused the display to read, "NO DISc."
I e-mailed Oppo's customer service department for help, and they suggested a couple of fixes to try. Nothing worked, so they then sent me a prepaid FedEx label to use in shipping the player back to Mountain View.
Two days after it arrived, they had it cleaned and fixed, with updated firmware. They then shipped it back to me via FedEx, all for no charge.
That's right--they did the repairs and paid the shipping both ways, on an old $150 unit that was clearly out warranty! Exceptional customer service like that is nearly impossible to find any more, but it really helps build customer trust and loyalty. When it comes time to upgrade, Oppo will certainly be number one on my short list of replacements to consider.
