I'm currently using the Motorola DCT6412 III. Since I've had this STB for years now, I was wondering if there are better ones that I should swap this for.

Can you give a ranking of current HD DVRs (best to worst) so that I can check with my local Comcast office to see what they have?

The best Comcast HD DVR is made by Tivo, and your local office won't have one.

If it works, I would stick with it. General reports on the new DCHs seem to be positive, a few very minor things better but it's the same software/firmware so it isn't much different at all.

DCT3416 and DCH3416 are probably the best ones, followed by the 6416/6412's.

I kept my 6412PII for about 18 months, it worked great. Then it started acting up, and the last straw was when it erased all my recordings overnight one time. Got a 3416, it was noticibly faster with the guide/menus while watching an HD channel, remote lag didn't seem as bad, the firewire bug was gone or at least not as bad as it was with the 6412, it ran a few degrees cooler.

When I moved a couple months ago and got a decent digi cable deal a few weeks after having just basic, they brought a 6412(cause it had DVI). He said he had to go back to get a box with HDMI, I didn't argue. I had a DVI-HDMI cable, but I didn't want a 6412 again, so i kept my mouth shut. Brought back a 3416, works ok so far. Not bad for a $1.99 change of service charge for a truck roll to remove the expanded basic trap and 2 trips to bring me a DVR w/o me going to the office.:)

It's really hard to say as the Moto and SA box's that Comcast uses very from area to area as well as the software inside them. You'd have better luck getting this information from you a thread on your local cable company in the 'Local HDTV Info and Reception' forum area.
